Dejen Gebremeskel won his 5th.
Paul Chelimo was 2nd.
I think Andy Vernon was 3rd.

Violah Lagat won the Women's race.
Shannon Rowbury was 2nd, followed by Aisha Praught, Dominique Scott, and Brenda Martinez.
I think the winning times were something like 13:25 and 15:30 or so!

Lagat was just a second or two ahead of Rowbury with a surprise 3rd by Aisha Praught (Leer?) all around 15:33-35, with Dominique Scott another couple seconds back. It basically came down to the last 300m when Lagat took off.
Mens race was a duel between Dejen and Paul, but Chelimo faded in last mile after an 8:43 2mi split. Andy Vernon was chasing but idk if he ended up 3rd or not. lots of guys closed on Chelimo finishing well under 14min

Very suprised Rowbury didn't have it in the end but she said in the post race interview that she took a week or so off from indoor and this is only her 4th week back and she tends to go through really heavy training blocks only tapering for big meets. Lagat really impressed me. Aisha Praught a little but not too much, because she's been hitting the training hard w/ Emma Coburn and rumor has it shes been keeping up w/ her on workouts. Dom Scott has been on a pretty good streak so far after 5th place finishes at the NBIGP (3k) and Millrose (mile). About where I suspected Brenda, if not higher.
Dejen killed it, watch out for him to challenge Farah again the 5k this year. After some injuries he's finally back into healthy form. He just gapped a very fit Paul Chelimo. Although, Chelimo has been racing a lot though and definitely needs to slow down before he burns himself out.
Chelimo just got back from Uganda so I'm sure he's not feeling great, although Steph Bruce was able to bounce back and run 31:59 at Stanford.
It would be cool to see Aisha make some improvements this year training under Bosshard with Emma. Maybe we can see a 9:20s steeple from her, or a low 15s 5000m?

I bet Aisha could do both. Plus I'm curious as to what Emma would run a 5k in.
VIolah's win is quite a surprise considering it is a 5K. Saw run shoulder to shoulder with Meseret Defar last year or 2015 before she started to fade after 2 miles. Her win here gives her a lot more confidence and shows her hard work in Iten is paying off. Should be very tough in the 1500m this outdoor season as well.
The winning time for the women at the Carlsbad Road 5K was 15:33.
Joyciline Jepkosgei ran 4 X 5K in a row with no rest in 15:21.25 average for each 5K in her Half-marathon race. She has only been running for 1 year.
Her first 5K was in 14:53.
All of these women would already be 40 seconds behind Joyciline…and then Joyciline would continue running another 10 miles in... 49:59.
The Americans need to pick up the pace a bit.

No.
The men's WR is 12:59.5 by Sammy Kipketer set at Carlsbad in 2000 and the women's WR is 14:46 by Meseret Defar set at Carlsbad in 2006.
Why was this year slow?
Looks like someone's 3k/5k event "clean sheets" got dirty......

The men's WR is 12:59.5 by Sammy Kipketer set at Carlsbad in 2000 and the women's WR is 14:46 by Meseret Defar set at Carlsbad in 2006.
Why was this year slow?
I think they've changed the course a few times over the years? Not sure if it's the same now as when the WR's were set.

They should shorten the course to make it faster.
That's what I do to make things faster and easier.
Sometimes I take a ride in an RV during really long runs.
Dustin and Michael from SKINS never noticed that I was in the RV instead of running…and Jaime from SKINS said that's OK.
