FMD, in other articles he gave up fags 30 November 2014 when smoking 60 a day, in that article it's 2013 and 40 a day. Even cheats and lies about that.
I know but I also know he wrote it

My God, you are right. Mark Hewlett does have a tell tale "-" characteristic to his writing. He very likely wrote that magazine article about Dave that uses the same "-" characteristics.
Shite Hawke, I think you may want to reconsider how innocent Mark really is and when he knew it was all a scam.

Yep, Dave and Mark are very good personal friends according to their Facebook posts. They were even considering going on vacation together.

There is no possible way the photographer and driver weren't in on it.
No idea why some people seem to think the reason they abandoned the trip was because those two were honest and wouldn't cheat.
You don't organise a scam trip like that and have people on the trip NOT in on it.
ANYONE on that van HAD to be in on it.

Yes. I posted a video from Mark's photography page that states a CHARLIE Reading plus Dave are looking to go to Kenya with Mark Hewlett.
HE WAS IN ON THE SCAM.

You might be on to something here.
This part from the article may be in reference to the "pals."

Brokeback Mountain Ultra Brits in Kenya?
Maybe.
Mark Hewlett might be a good bloke just as Shite Hawk says he is, but he was in on it.
Why?, good for business, he could see it snow balling and going viral, it already had to some degree, notice all the photos credited to 'Photograph: Mark Hewlett' in the articles.
Imagine if Dave had got away with it and became a hero and travelling ambassador for WWTW, gets invites to special functions, motivational seminars, schools, etc, etc around the country on the WWTW expense account, perhaps even overseas, meets people like the patron of WWTW Prince Harry, now that would be good for business for any photographer.
And who's always there to photograph and perhaps even write an article to distribute to the media and online, probably also on WWTW expense account?, yep, definitely good for business. As he says "Commissions accepted."
Dave and Mark were scratching each others back to the benefit of each.
Joe the driver, not so sure, he threatened to bail out on day two when he realized fully that it was a sham, wouldn't have been any other reason and probably threatened to out Dave, definitely out Dave, possibly Mark. The rest is history.
But this thread ain't dead yet.

Haha, good one, but that's too witty and subtle for the LR forum.

Just sayin'.
When I looked at their echo chamber, what struck me is they seemed to think that the main crime was being caught. I further wonder whether this is systemic and if you are running distances nobody else cares about at a pace that doesn't impress the rest of the running community there is a relaxed attitude about taking short cuts?

Hewlett wrote these, unnecessary – all through the articles, probably more article examples out there too.
The media loves this sort of copy, because it's exactly that, copy and publish, no work or time involved and just get a junior reporter to put their name to it.

I'm wondering that too. That seems to be how Ben Rogers has remained below the radar despite providing very suspicious evidence of what he is claiming. How many more people are falsely claiming to run huge mileage? And why do they choose running? Do cycling and swimming suffer from the same exaggerated claims?

Good eye, those articles definitely seem to be written by Mark. This gives further support that Mark Hewllet is deeper involved in the scam than I gave him credit for.
