Don't forget the charity angle too, when whoever it was rang shortly after to explain away the lack of timing mats you can bet they fully emphasized the charity angle.

But if all proceeds are going to charity, why would they cheat?

Have you not read this thread?
He was given 5 grand by Nicky at Mattressman for faking doing a sub 3:30.
This money has disappeared and was NEVER added to the charity page.
Plus the 3:12 lie was used to scam a load of free gear off sponsors for the fake LEJOG. At least 10 pairs of expensive Hokas and a load of gear and race entries from Sealskinz plus free bikes and free van and petrol, etc etc.

They obviously care a great deal, for the organisations they raise money for!

Reeeeeally? You think stealing FIVE THOUSAND pounds that was for the charity shows you care about it?
Do bore off you retarded troll
"1. Why did Terri / Dave state that his timing chip was faulty when there is clear photographic evidence that he was not wearing the timing chip for some part, or all of the marathon? Why not just state that the chip became dislodged and fell off before he crossed the start line?"
The "clear photographic evidence" part is something they never accounted for, after all who's going to check photos, and home in on a shoe, (even took the LetsRun sleuths a long time to notice it, and they're experts!) best just to rip it off and throw it away just to make sure no time is recorded, plus it was non-returnable, so bonus. Bet they wish they'd accounted for photos now.
What they did try to account for was making sure the chip was on the shoe when entering the pen as they thought it may get picked up if there wasn't one on, hence the ties still on the shoe after it was ripped off. Bet they never thought residual bits of chip ties could get picked on photo either, lol.
"2. Where did his 4h:19m:38s time come from? If his chip was faulty / not worn then how did VLM know how long it took him to reach the finish?"
They took it from the other runners around him at the finish.
It put a bit of spanner in the works as far as their claiming the crucial sub 3:30 to get the five grand but they decided to blag their way through that one, after all, who's going to care or check, Dave and Terrie are good people doing it for charity.
So they went on and claimed he'd actually ran 3:12, but that's another story and lie fully backed up by evidence that he claimed it, even on video coming out of his own mouth to Duncan the war hero and a bunch of kids, etc.

I DID! It was me that spotted the missing chip.
The only question now is what data did they send to Scott for him to okay it??
Hugh must be examining it in great detail.
Likely the reason for the delay as he's sent it to an expert to check for tampering.

Hi Terrie, good to have you back.
Did you declare the stolen five grand to the benefits agency, as you well know you aren't allowed to receive money like that without declaring it.
No wonder Nicky wants nothing to do with you. He should have donated it straight to a WWTW official page, not YOUR pocket you thief

No-one checks chips at the end. They LOOK like the ones that are used again, but aren't. They are single use and you keep them. I keep mine as souvenirs.
I am obviously out of date as I last ran London in 2010 and the people with wire cutters would attack your feet as soon as you staggered on to these little elevated bridge things to make it easier for them.

Ha, yeh, they let you keep chip now. Must cost them more money as they are posh ones. Most disposable ones these days are just a paper loop for your trainers or a bar stuck on number.
Had he wanted to leave his chip off and get no time that's fine, but not if its a deliberate scam to get a time much faster than you can do by pretending it was faulty and submitting fake data.
If Dave crossed the line with the clock showing 4:19 then he did NOT run the whole course.
I personally have left my chip off. I have had a lot of GFA entries and if i qualify i always want to take part. One year i knew i would be slow and just didn't want an official time. So i entered GFA and paid, just left chip off.
That broke no rules. I didn't dash to London marathon office with fake data trying to claim a time two hours faster than i could do and claim the chip was broken!

10/10, took a while though.

Hugh old chap, just send the data here, this is where the real experts are here.

Haha, let me be happy i spotted it!
This is so true, and the reason why Terrie won't post it on here!
The investigators of data on the Rob Young thread was amazing.
There are certainly people on here that could figure out faked Tom Tom data, and the only possible way Scott okayed the data is if it was tampered with.
I'm just worried Hugh might not know how to investigate forged data.

This thread was on page three, WTF's going on?
Is that it now, we all just hurry up and wait for Hugh to issue the DQ?
Hasn't someone somewhere got more incriminating evidence?
Its all here
I'm dissapointed. wrote:

I think we are all just waiting for Hugh to finish his London Marathon investigation. I was expecting that Derek was going to be writing an article on Dave Reading's cheating last week but he must also be waiting for Hugh and/or is busy.
I wanted to contact the BBC and Daily Mail but I think that's easier when you have an official disqualification from the London Marathon.
In the background, over the past few weeks I've been trying to get WWTW to provide verifiable information about which sponsors they actually contacted as they said they did in Tom Bristow's article, but it's been quite difficult....... I also pointed out a very obvious sponsor they didn't contact where there is a photo of Dave taking a donation cheque from Monk Plant Hiring while he is dressed up in his LEJOG gear. I've been trying to do a audit of the donations but it is difficult when some people don't respond and some people don't cooperate for reasons I won't speculate on at this point. I will provide more information when available.
Getting hard evidence about the scams of the Reading's from the past has proven difficult since I'm not in the UK and I can't readily access police and court records.
I'm playing around with offline bib number OCR software to go through the London Marathon photos to see if I can find more Dave photos to get clues about what he really did that day. Since Dave is all unusually dressed up in black, I will also play with the software to find all the photos with black shirts.
But I think the long term plan now is just to wait for Hugh to finish his London Marathon investigation before doing much else.

Actually, it's good we took a while to notice he wore no chip.
Had we spotted it straight away Hugh might just have issued a DNF, not a DQ, and not bothered asking Scott to see the TomTon data he supplied.
This probably wouldn't have meant a future ban, and would just have been logged as chip missing, DNF.
Now Dave has sent Hugh this data, and it MUST be tampered with and forged.
So that is way better for us, as he should now be fully outed as a cheat submitting fake data and should get a DQ AND BAN from any future London marathons.
Yeah, that crossed my mind too, would have given them prior warning to use as an excuse, instead they've dug themselves a deeper and deeper hole which they now can't get out of.
Hole meet shovel with Dave and Terrie on the end of it.

The delay can only really be about checking the TomTom data.
If he supplied no data, then Hugh would have thrown out the investigation by now and issued a DQ.
He can easily look at photos.
He knows when he crossed the finish line as there will be photos of the clock and him finishing.
I think he started and cut back at mile 12 where you can jump the barrier.
So he might well have been on the course for 4 hrs 19 but didn't cover 26 miles.

Tough one tracking down all the donations made and sponsors/charities involved, especially the 'money in the bucket' stuff. Most of them don't want to get involved because of the bad publicity it attracts for their business or charity even though the business/charity is totally innocent. It's all about perceptions when it comes to the public making donations to a charity or using someone's business, which is why WWTW want nothing more to do with this pair. Particularly tough for charities because it becomes guilt by association and they get accused of not accounting for and distributing their donations correctly etc which makes the public very skeptical.
Also, what happened to nine mile photo Terrie found?, haven't seen a copy of that anywhere.
