Rupp is hands down the best American 10000m runner ever. He is most certainly NOT the best American distance runner ever. Bernard, for one, trounces him there. 3000/5000 beast machine.

OK then. Yes I will.
I see you are taking the "stopped clock" approach. That only works for things like recessions and stock market crashes.
We just got back from Uganda and have recovered enough to preview the race for you here:
David monti's race preview is out. He summarizes his interview with Rupp by saying Rupp downplayed AR talk.
"Yesterday, Rupp played down his chances for the record and said that his main objective was to just get in a good race prior to the Boston Marathon. Rupp, 30, hasn’t raced in over four months.
“I just have to get a race in,†Rupp told Race Results Weekly here yesterday. “It’s been a long time. Prague presented itself, and it’s a great opportunity. They always have great fields here. The competition is second to none. In looking at the schedule, it worked out really well.â€
3:50i / 7:30i / 12:58 / 26:44, two Olympic medals and a 2:10 Olympic marathon in less than ideal conditions. Hard to argue against the total package.
I really hope he runs sub 59:30 and wins.

ThatAverageRunner wrote:Are you serious? You're proving that you have no idea what you're talking about. Times don't count at Boston. He also had an insane tailwind that day. His record is not ratified. I like Ryan Hall. He's a great runner and seems like a great guy. He does have the half marathon record and it's a decent record, but he does not have the marathon AR. Khalid Khannouchi has the american record at 2:05:38.
You don't say...I'm saying he RAN 2:04, and set a serious fast pace, and yes it is an asterisk....but he ran 2:04 and that is a record fast time for an american ..period.
a time Rupp will never see in his existence. period.
Scorpion you were flat out wrong and you know it. There is no asterisk because Hall's Boston time is not an American Record. PERIOD.
You can say it's the fastest marathon run by an American but it is NOT an American Record. Big difference there that you are not understanding.

Yes. I was wrong....but I'm sure my point was proven by that, because hall ran 2:04..and rupp has not, and will not.

Let's say he wins Boston this year, and medals in the marathon in Tokyo in 2020. He also ends up running 2:05:xx in a rabbited race like Berlin, but never breaks 2:05.
Including the already-cited PRs above, who would you (not you, Oh Please, but the haters in this thread) place above him as the GOAT American runner?
I think there's room for some doubt right now, but if he adds those accomplishments (Boston win, 3 Oly medals, 2:05:xx PR) there's no way he's not the GOAT.
GOAT American, to be clear. He's obviously behind guys like Haile and Keninisa.
Anyone have info on viewing options?

Then why didn't you say that instead of trying to stick to your guns.
And who says Rupp doesn't get gale forced tailwinds at Boston some year and run a 2:03.
He will run 59:15

Alberto and Galen have been together for a long time.
Many years of preparation are finally building to Galen's Boston Win.
It is Galen and Alberto's Destiny.

Oh boy Alberto.
but he's been training for a marathon...that's in a few weeks.....

Yes, 58:59-59:20, He is way better than the Robertson twins and Hawkins and they ran 59:47-60:00, 60:01, he is also way better than Ryan Hall even when Hall ran 59:43.
Also you know he would not go all the way to Prague 2 weeks before Boston if he was not going to do something worthwhile like break the American Record.
fastest non African times
1. Abraham Cheboron of Bahrain in Asia 59:10 (Note he ran 58:48 when he was a Kenyan)
2. Mo Farah 59:22
3. Marilson Dos Santos 59:33
4. Ryan Hall and Antonio Pinto 59:43
I think at minimum he beats Farah's time and it would not shock me if he beat Cheboron's time, hopefully he dips under 59

This race is simply a tune up for Boston, and nothing more then a tune up.
Yes. Rupp wouldn't be in Prague if he wasn't ready to run fast. Unless the race is super tactical or he has an awful day I think Hall's AR is toast.
No offense to the current #3 American Diego Estrada but all of Galen Rupp's PR's indicate he should be a solid 2 minutes faster than Estrada for a half.
It is harder for a westerner to win the Olympics in the marathon now then it was in Shorter's era. Now that track isn't an amateur sport, the East Africans show up in huge numbers. If Shorter had to face the full might of East Africa in 1972, he would be an also ran. And Frank is one of my heroes, but these are just the facts. Moran.

And saying he's the greatest at 5,000 and up basically implies that he's the greatest american distance runner. No one person wins every single race they ever run in every event. 5,000 and up was used because anything lower is considered middle distance to most. And even then, Rupp has some solid mile / 3k times. I think most people will agree when it's said that Rupp is the greatest american distance runner, like him or not.
" Ryan Hall's marathon record doesn't count you fool."
What? How in the hell does it not count, and it is in the record books, as well as his half marathon.
Jeffery Mutai said that he broke the marathon record because ryan hall set the pace!
so now it does not count because you say so?...lol
It doesn't count because the IAAF says so. Boston is not record eligible as it is net downhill. There was a tailwind that day. No records were broken that day. Get over it. Khalid still has the record, but don't worry, Rupp will have it soon.
