It only worked for Webb for running fast. Compare what he did with Nick Willis. Webb did not have the race experience that Willis did.

Yeah well Holman sort of did...
Am I the only one that thinks a university education is not important than running about?
He has the chance to get a university education, presumably paid for, but because he has run 4 minutes for the mile throws that all away to train with his high school coach?
Let's say he works down his mile PB to sub 3:55, is that really more important than an education? Even 3:52 isn't enough to make a good career.

You're not the only one. It comes down to desire. A person must follow their heart. His head probably knows that he needs the degree, but his heart wants to see how fast he can get - and he thinks he needs more time training with the coach he trusts.
Or maybe his education wasn't free, penn state is a very expensive out of state school and he would need nothing less than a full ride for it to be a better deal than small in state schools

Do you know him personally? Did he tell you he was leaving because he doesn't care about his education? How do you know, other than wild speculation, that he is "throwing away" an education?
Why not just wish him well rather than make negative assumptions? There could be any number of reasons why he is leaving Penn, none of which involve him unilaterally deciding to "throw away" an education. Given you don't know him at all, you also have no idea what is in his best interest, so again, why not just wish him well.
Grades? Stuggling to survive?
Scholarship cut because not producing?
Girlfriend/homesick?
Most likely he is banged up and not enjoying himself. Most freshman do go through the period of wanting to transfer (grass is greener elsewhere, the coach isn't effective, etc). If injured, and formerly a stud, I imagine it is quite difficult. Not sure if you can throw Penn State under the bus in the middle distances? The last 6 years have produced several pro runners!
If he raced indoors, then he would've been eligible outdoors.
I think this was more injury, not trusting the coaches, having hard time not doing awesome immediately.

Well said. This is just a reset and it's up to him whether he returns for school or goes pro. Wish him great success.
You cannot be serious. Why would you write garbage like that on a public message board?

The truth hits too close to home for you? Ouch!
Not true. You're covering for Lagat's obvious drug use. Drugs allowed a runner who could run 1:46 while doped to run 3:26, while doped. Without drugs, Lagat would have run in the mid 1:47s most likely, and could never have broken 3:34. Lagat ran in several races - mid summer, when he was in prime shape - where guys ran 1:44 and Lagat couldn't crack 1:46. He's an all-time top responder to EPO.Talent is as talent does wrote:

Apples to oranges. The above poster is saying Slag will never have the ability to run 1:46.
Lagat simply never raced the 800 in the real racing season.
Lagat would have toasted Centro and Leo in the 800, and they've both run 1:44.
The fact of the matter is that he didn't enjoy running in the NCAA. Do you think he would have done better in an environment that made him feel unhappy or trained in a way he disliked? Not sure if you're supporting the argument that the NCAA route would have panned out better for Webb, but people that make that argument are ignoring these athletes' preferences. If they feel more comfortable with the same training, it's unlikely that switching it up will do much good. If there is no psychological element involved, maybe mot athletes would physically benefit from the type of scheduling that NCAA competition requires. We'll never know.
oh, okay, so there are tens of thousands of child molesters in State College every year? Is that the rational claim?
hundreds of thousands, some say

Does anyone have an update?

You have to ask the question properly to get a reasonable answer around here.
Is Slag update?
