Correct. I remember watching Ritz' run in Eugene and I believe he barely missed Lindgren's HS mark.
13:44.

13:44.
Chris Derrick and John Zishka (circa 1980) also broke 14 and I am sure there have been others but it is early in the season and I could see a couple breaking that barrier by June.
So there is a 1600 racewalk video for the Texas Distance Festival. But when I watched it, the hyper guy is interviewing a girl and asking her how it felt to run the %5 time in the US at 4:47 or so. But the results show her finishing in 4:55.
So, in conclusion:
There was no racewalk
Flotrack did not start their watch correctly
Flotrack did not have access to the results
The girl ran an awesome race although perhaps not as fast as the guy said it was
I paid for this

?
Rupp, Lindgren, Prefontaine, Derrick, Virgin...
And these....
Back in the 70’s there was a 3 mile postal at the end of cross country......
1973 -Rich Kimball ripped a 13:43.6 over a junior- Mitch Kingery 13:56.4!
* Kimball would go on to win the World Cross Country title!!
Then in “76 3M postal Senior Tim Holmes bested junior Rod Berry; 13:59.9 to 14:00.3!!

Good going, Flotrack!
Another example of your stupendous contributions to our sport!!
(Sarc!)
That's why no one should pay them for video access.
One heck of a high school race.
Austin is ground zero for these buffoons.
Where is Chapa on the 5000 list?

Bill McChesney also ran low 29 10K as a sophomore the junior olympics in '76 which is probably worth close to 14 flat. I think he later broke Prefontaine's U. of Oregon 5000 record

I agree; he has not seemed to capture people's fancy yet and fire their imaginations. I suspect he needs to win a national title first.
Oh lord... Who put those guys in charge of commentating.
I had to watch it myself to see how bad they were and i was embarrassed for them. At least give them a pace chart to look at.
Well he might if he does new balance outdoors while others are at brooks
Either way that's gotta be a top 5 time ever for 5k and that's amazing, definitely something to be hyped about imo
rupp ran 13:37 as a high-schooler

These are mid 8:40s guys running 14:teens. With 13:44 and 13:37, how fast could Ritz and Rupp have run a 2M at Pre in Verzbicas like conditions?
How fast could Verzbicas have run if he trained for track? Just about all his training was cross training for the tri with the exception of a couple months in the fall for cross country.
he had mono lmao
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
