Other than Ads from the network and planted "reviews" telling us how great the show is, I never hear anyone talking about it.
Is the show just a monument to PC perpetuated by the industry, that nobody dares criticise?

My spouse watches it, says it is a great show.
There are ratings of TV shows, measuring how many people watch various shows. That could be another source of information but you might have to leave letsrun.com to find it.
It's actually about the only show I DO hear people talking about. I have a cousin and a couple of friends who adore it. I haven't seen it.
It's one of the very few shows I watch.
Well it seems to win it's time slot. But I guess that isn't what you wanted toi hear.
9 p.m. This Is Us (NBC) – F 3.4/12 12.84
NCIS: New Orleans (CBS) (9-11 p.m.) 1.2/4 10.43
Fresh Off the Boat (ABC) 1.1/4 3.37
Bones (FOX) 0.7/2 2.52
Legends of Tomorrow (The CW) 0.5/2 1.34
This is one the best shows I've ever watched in my life. I'm going watch the last episode of the Season 1 ( https://loadtv.info/ltv/tvshow/ ) tonight. One of the most loving and uplifting shows I've seen in a long time.
NBC shows suck.
Like OP, I'm suspicious of anything - movie, TV show, person, game, whatever - of which one only hears raves and compliments, because everyone has different tastes (in theory, at least) and so it should be impossible to make something that appeals to every single person. I begin to wonder if This Is Us is one of those things that people feel they are "supposed to like." I feel the same way about Game of Thrones. Every time a new episode went out my social media would explode with people raving about how it was the greatest thing since... well, since the episode from the week before.
I get the feeling Game of Thrones is a show of above average quality but which has a superior marketing game, and thus has achieved a status, occupied in the past by things like the Ed Sullivan Show, of being a national "institution" such that everyone wants to jump on board with it and talk like it's the greatest thing since...well, since the Ed Sullivan Show I guess. I get the feeling This Is Us will be the next thing to achieve "institution" status. God help any reviewer who gets tired of raving about each new episode or finds that any given episode was lackluster.
The show is horrible. My wife loves it and a bunch of her friends love it. I will not enter a room when she is watching it. In the little I have seen the large woman is the most likable character because she is not constantly whining or being passive aggressive or actively screwing up her life.
To answer your question, yes people watch it. The fat person has physical problems which are far less severe than all of the mental problems the rest of them have so she is the least painful person to watch.
Frightening.
It's a pretty good show; I'd say it's about as solid as they come for a family drama. I dislike most of the characters, even HATE, but for what it is it's nice.
Someone should do a TV show based on Letsrun.
You can have a reoccurring list of characters:
Jammin the loser
Flagpole the know it all
Rojo & Wejo
Etc...

OMG it stars Keiko from "Free Willy"!
Meanwhile, Twin Peaks sinks into obscurity..
I saw maybe 10 minutes of one episode once. The dude who doesn't match the rest of his family but is in the family regardless somehow drank a spiked drink at a cabin farewell party or something and hallucinated stuff. For some reason nobody else drank this, or he went to a cabin and thought it was wise to drink something that was in the refrigerator and not sealed or otherwise labeled. I don't know.
And there was some fat chick on the TV too, who I think I've seen on news shows or something. Then after a commercial there were kids on the screen doing stuff or something. It was fuzzy, though, so likely a TV flashback. I think Every Woman Alive watches this show, but I didn't get much from it. I'd rather watch football on the off chance I'd see Sergio Dipp flame out again.
no
I have a female cousin who loves the show and tells me I should watch it. I probably won't. I watch too much TV but I don't want to get bogged down in another series.
I much prefer 'This is it'
they can all go to point park
also what about real Island and the guy who impersonates him (replaces the Is with Ls.) they could be like psychotic siamese twins
for what it's worth, my sister and i both watch it and love it. it teaches me not to take my family for granted, and i feel the need to be closer to them after watching. all in all, i feel like this is us makes me a better person.
I don't know, but everyone I know that watches it says it gives them "all the feels." And that saying pisses me off, so I hate the show.
Much preferred The Carmichael Show.
