Thank you for your story, very cool.

Different sport but also an interaction with a pro: The fourth of July Parade in our town was and still is a big deal. The Grand Marshall one year was a starting tackle for the Cleveland Browns. When my 10 year old brother requested an autograph he replied, 'Get away fum me, kid.'

"No offense to you, but if we had just run the ball at the end of the game, we'd definitely be Super Bowl champs." Oddly enough, two different coaches said this to me recently.
Then Giants coach Bill Parcels told me,
"You'll never amount to nothing in this league," after we whipped his boys.

Bill, I think you are forgetting about that time another coach said to you "Sorry for beating you twice in the big game and on the one ruining your perfect season".
You'll never amount to anything

It was a quote. That's the way that illiterate tub talks, you precious little flower.

..... I'll never forget that exchange with Marcus though. I respected him a great deal and that he'd acknowledge me at the end of my career after one of the toughest races I'd had to run was a memory I won't forget.
The definition of a humblebrag.

Just ran my first indoor meet and won the 1600 in 4:24 by about 4 seconds. After my cool down a well know coach in the state came up to me and shook my hand and congratulated me on running a smart race. We talked for a little and he ended by saying this "No offense to you, but if second place ran better splits you definitely wouldn't have won this race"
I literally had no idea what to even say back to that. I just kinda shrugged my shoulders and walked away. Was this guy just a dick or is this a reasonable thing to say to a high school kid after a race?
You and other posters are high schoolers so it's easy for the loser coaches to pick on you. These losers were failures somewhere along the line and take their rage out on weaker humans. All you need to do is have some adults on your side spectating the race. Perhaps someone who ran in college and now keeps up mostly for fitness, weight lifting, maybe martial arts. The kind of dudes you hear about on LRC. Tell them about it. Your friends in waiting might get temporarily mad. That's when they can go over to the coach and knock his @ss out or verbalize the sh-t out of him.

You clearly don't know what a humblebrag is.
Tell him, "shut up, democrat. Hillary lost and Trump is president."
There are people out there that think they know better than everyone. There's just no telling them otherwise.
Don't worry, they are just trying to feel less sh**ty about themselves really, so like other guys already said, they perceive younger hard working fellows as easy venting targets.
Very similar to that bald old fellow trying to pick on a younger kid for growing out his hair.
Like Will Smith said in a movie "People can't do something themselves they wanna tell you you can't do it either".
Do you think that Axl Rose's teachers didn't try to hold him back too? The guy has made it and is sticking it to their faces now.
You can either bend over and try to please other fellows, or you can be successful at whatever you like and be happy with you.
You keep doing what you like young man, if the other guy didn't beat you then tough luck, you were fit and ran smart as well.
I was on the field at the 72 Olympic Trials decathlon and after Jenner finished third, Bill Bowerman told him "you lack balls." Guess he took it seriously.
I hope more than anything that this is true.
"We'll get you at state" he was referring to his son after I'd won our regional for Xc and his son was second.
In my entire running career, such as it was, no opposing coach ever said anything to me, or to any of my teammates.

Sounds like a very knowledgeable coach- had second place run faster, they could have won. You should have picked his brain for more nuggets of wisdom.
Lol. Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. "If the guy in second had run faster, he would have beat you!" No fvckin sh!t, but he didn't, so it doesn't matter!
Enjoy the victory and forget about that 'tard.
Bobby Kersee told me "give me two more" at the end of a 5k at a meet at Randall's Island, NY.
I was working as a beer vendor, so he wasn't counting laps.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
