Also remember distance guys have poor acceleration so the blocks vs flying start conversion is worse for them. I don't know anything about sprinting but that loss has to be over a second for distance runners, maybe more.
I'm a 2:04 800 guy who experimented with sprinting and freelap for a few weeks after the season was over. My 800 is much better than my mile. Splits are below. Reaction time is not included.

30m, 4.34
60m, 7.62
100m, 12.01
0-30m, 4.34
30-60m, 3.28
Difference between standing 30 and flying 30 is just over a second.
