How is 1st place (Scotland) and 4th place (GB) different nationalities?
Isn't Scotland part of GB?
NCAA should be closed to foreigners.
The people of the USA fund these institutions and the benefits should flow accordingly.
It would be one thing if it was a even exchange between countries, but it's not. Are Americans offered similar opportunities in other countries? How is this fair?
Both Josh & Neil are Scottish...

Really? What's going on with these Scott's?
The funny thing is the oldest person in that race was 6th. Went on a Mormon mission AND he used that time to train and played a bunch of soccer.
Regardless, I do not support coaches selling their souls to outsource partly tax payer money. The problem is most coaches pull, "These kids are looking for an opportunity." And this is known as the Appeal to sympathy Fallacy. You can find just as sketched out areas in the U.S. then where they are getting these foreigners. A lot of the foreigners have it better off than 95%+ of the general U.S. college population.
If you look at some of these teams rosters, at truly pathetic how much they've outright given up to coach. University of New Mexico, Oklahoma State has almost more foreigners than Americans on their teams, and both coaches aren't going to stop anytime soon.
The worst thing one can do, is idle by and just keep the sentiments to themselves.

I'm wondering whether Murphy, Centro, Rupp... would have progressed the way they did if the NCAA was only open to US athletes (that is if they did not get the opportunity to compete against higher quality athletes during their college years).
NO. DIDNT YOU SEE BRAVE HEART? WILLIAM WALLACE OF SCOTTLAND LOSES AT THE END. THEY CUT HIS GUTS OUT. BEFORE HE DIES HE YELLED FREEEEEEEEEDDDOOOOMMMMMM! BUT THAT DIDNT HELP CUZ THE ENGLISH WON. THEREFORE, NO SCOTTLAND. BUT MANY OF THE SCOTTS STILL YELL "FREEEEEEEEDDDDOOOOOMMMMMM!" AT THE START OF RACES. ITS REALLY SAD.
How about U.S. runners just get better.... If we're getting our asses handed to, not just by east africans, but fu*king SCOTLAND (on our home turf no less), then maybe U.S. distance running reassess and get its shit together.
Didn't know there was a guy from Ghana up there. He has really come out of nowhere and improved remarkably in the last year.
This is known as the straw man fallacy.
It's like saying, I'm for abortions since 1% of them are rape babies, therefore it excuses the other 99%.
Using a small fraction of select cases does not prove one's point.
Also, two of those 3 athletes you mentioned are under an ongoing DOPING investigation. Please find other examples if you're going to use this as your argument.
To the people saying, "We should just get better." How in the world is it fair to race against much older athletes, to which, the Africans abuse badly. Like any good running on the world scene, it typically takes time to develop.
So the question to ask is to US system the best for developing talent ie the high school set up? There may be merit in club system that other countries have.

No no, ban British athletes from the NCAA because Britain is just so large it has so much depth to choose from it's not fair on the American kids.
Hide from the real world, poor little snowflakes.
It is not Scottish or Scott's it is Scots. Just Scots. It also depends on who you are talking to as many in Scotland want to separate from GB and certainly do not consider them as British.
While we're at it... Why don't we ban all foreign kids in USA HS track?! Genius!! Kill it at the source

I don't care either way. That's not a justification in my mind if it happened to be true.

^The nonsensical argument that is frequently made^
These coaches are still coaching regardless of whether their athlete is from Maryland, Montana, or Mozambique.

Here is the real world--pay for your own shit. These institutions are paid for by the American people in one way or another. The benefits should go to American kids. It's ridiculous that a state strapped for cash like NM is funding and allocating resources to a Scott. Why is that spot not going to a top NM high school runner? So what if he's not as good. This isn't pro sports.
