Exactly, and Mary Cain, and Alan Webb.
You can't blame the UK fans for getting excited over Laura.
1) Probably the fastest legit 1500m runner.
2) Diamond League Winner
3) Defeated the Olympic Champ twice in post-Olympic meets.
4) Sets a pile of national/European indoor records
5) Becomes double European Indoor Champ
Now, most of my posts have been a reaction to daft comments about Laura like the suggestion that she should not be considered a 2017 Olympic medal contender.
Now, it seems some posters want it both ways.
On one hand they say she is overhyped, and on the other they say she must be a doper because of her achievements.,

Dibaba is the cleanest runner in the entire world. You should be hung by your lying testicles
As for Muir, she is much more likely to be doping. She's a vetarinarian who has come completely out of nowhere and never did shiat as a youth or as an adult either until late late last year.
You are such an idiot, your existence is depriving future generations of vital resources.

So really you are making the case that she is the female equivalent of Steve Ovett circa 1977.
Because she may be the clean 1500m WR holder at just 23.
Neither Rowbery or Simpson is good enough to be compared to Muir.

In some ways that makes sense.
In 1976, Steve went off to the Olympics with the UK press hanging medals around his neck and then he flopped big time.
But, like with Laura in Rio , Montreal came a year too soon for Ovett.
But what has excited UK fans - and many others - is Laura's front running style.
A style that's always going to attract a lot more admiration than the "sit and wait" style runner.

Come out of nowhere? She's been running quick sinve 2013:

Muir's won her last 8 races (excl heats) which have brought her two continental titles, two continental records, four national records, a national cross country title, an all time #2 ranked performance and an all time #5 ranked performance. And all of her PRs are faster than Simpson.

I would point out that her 1500 PR is faster than the American women's 1500 record. That makes her faster than Mary Decker, Susy Favor Hamilton, Jenny Simpson, Shannon Rowbury, and any other American woman EVER. So, I think that justifies a fair amount of hype. Plus, the woman is only 23 and thus hasn't even hit her prime yet. I also agree with the being white point.
El G ran his fastest 1500 when he was 23.

You have a whole section devoted to Muir labeling her as a "star". About eight articles detailing every aspect of her life.
What exactly has she done to deserve this? It's kind of funny to me. I can understand the Brits overhyping her, but why here? Would you ever do any such treatment for Genzebe, who has six world records? Or Faith Kipyegon, the Olympic champion who has won at every level? These are the legitimate stars.
I'm all for new stars emerging and I hope Muiir is the real thing and can create a great three way rivalry, but don't you think it's a tad premature to glorify a girl whose most recent big race was a 7th place flop?
Because most people don´t give a facking fack about a bunch of anonymous East African runners. They want to see recognizable faces.

Well, Laura is bit of late starter and Brits do seem to record their best times somewhat later than some other nationalities.
Cram was 25. Overt was 28 , and Coe was 29 when they recorded their best 1500m times.

Don't forget her 7th place medal from the Olympics! And that coveted 5th placer from world champs!

You're not listening are you!
Montreal 1976 Ovett doesn't qualify for 1500m final and finishes 5th in the 800m.
He was clearly overhyped!
BTW, what ever happened to him after that?

Just in case you don't the answer to the question above, Steve went on to break multiple world records, and became an Olympic, European and Commonwealth champion.

LRC writes "Kenyan born" before certain Americans' names in every article they write. Why not do the same for Galen Rupp??? "The Greek immigrated Rupp is running the Boston Marathon this year." Everyone in the US came from somewhere unless Native American.
Yeah the Brojos have a predisposition towards white folks. So does everyone who went to school at any level in this country.
I don't know if you know this, but Galen Rupp isn't a Greek or any other type of immigrant
Missed the point. Unless he is Native American, his family did come to the US at some point. We're all immigrants. Yeah I don't know if Rupp is Greek. That was a throwaway example. There is a clear treatment of white athletes and non white athletes by the folks who run this site.

It's this. She gets people on their feet with her aggressive running and people have a genuine sense of anticipation before her races.
Now, it seems some posters want it both ways.

It's the anti British mentality some posters here have. Cracking bad teeth jokes and ripping into the British. Pretending Britain never had an empire and never had an influence across the world.
Mo Farah gets the same treatment. He is constantly called a doper but also is apparently shit and his competition just turn up to the championships unprepared or slower than college runners.
He is a doper because he routinely demolishes the competition but would definitely get destroyed by every Kenyan and Ethiopian Olympic medallist you can think of. Apparently.
I saw the same treatment of Charlie Grice and Lyndsey Sharp here. Good so doping but British so rubbish.

I think it's the system. The American collegiate system lends itself to hard training from 18-22.
Most Brits go to university, find it difficult to balance the two and only start hard training after studying.
Running great times before the age of 23 is considered a young potential talent in Britain where it seems to be about 20 in the States.
I agree with the overhyping. She has been posting very good times and seems to be in very good form, but she was in good form going into the Olympics, and look how that turned out. She tried to go with Genzebe and ended up 7th. What's important is that she stays in the same good form throughout the year and improves her tactics, especially in the 1500m. Even though it is too early to say and we haven't seen much of Laura's global competition (Faith, Jennifer etc), I can see Laura medalling in the 1500m (I would be crazy to count out a 3:55 PB runner),but she has no chance in the 5000m. She will try to go with Almaz and burn out worse than the Olympic final.
