yes. NXN has changed some coaches. I think it's like a drug for some coaches, getting to that meet. In NY you can see coaches are willing to use 7/8/9th graders to get to their. If they need one more fast kid, they will go use that middle schooler. It is at the cost of long term development. very few 7/8/9 kids should be focusing on training for xc from June to December. The race season is September to December. Longer than the college season, it's not healthy for kids.
Bring with that the training kids at these successful schools do and you are using them up before they have a chance. Look at the body fat level of the NY girls, the training their doing is pushing back their development, so yes they have problems in college but it's because their HS coaches didn't let their bodies do naturally what they should. These growing kids eat strick diets, run more mileage that most college coaches would give freshman, they weight lift crazy amounts, do plyo's, cross train, do 18-20 mile runs. All so they can get to/win nationals. They teenage girl body isn't made for that... read the interesting article by ashlely brosavan - she said she did the damage to her body in hs that resulted in her injuries in college. This is happening to a lot of young women!
The funny part is the hs coach gets to blame the college coach or gets to say the kid lost interest. They take no responibility once the athlete is gone. When really a lot of college injuries can be traced back to poor hs diet and over training in hs.
