Pre-internet years (early 90's)
25-50 miles a week, probably closer to the 30 mile range on average. Only ran 50 mpw for a short stint before my senior year of track and nothing fancy, essentially just going out and running 7 miles a day.
Maybe ran 10 miles or more only 3-4 times all through HS. Did not run XC my frosh year (football). Had a different coach all 4 years in track and a different coach for XC (though he was our coach all 3 years). None of these coaches were runners (football/basketball/baseball).
No one in our family ran, we just fell into the sport by running track in middle school. Small rural town, no body ran.
No summer/winter running program and besides our senior year milage was fairly pathetic and very inconsistent.

Ran a 2 mile once 9:58
When Bannister was 17 he ran a 4:24 mile based on training 3X30 minutes per week. On a slow cinder track as well!
Averaged 40mpw senior year.

Now a college sophomore running 60-70mpw and my 8k PR is my high school 2 mile pace.
800m, 1600m, 3200m
9th grade - 25-30 mpw (2:31, 5:43, 12:56)
10th grade - 40 mpw (2:26, 5:16, 11:07)
11th grade - 45-50 mpw (2:10, 4:39, 9:58)
12th grade - 65-75 mpw (2:09, 4:34, 9:45)
I did soccer in the fall every year.
9th~10-15mpw: 400m (55.3)
10th~10-15mpw: 400m (52.9)
11th~15-20mpw: 400m (50.6), 800m (1:54)
12th [new coach]~did 35-40mpw in the winter for the first time and then 30-40 during the season: 400m (50-51), 800m (1:54), 1600m (4:26) {only ran 1}
as much as 70-80 max and my pr's were:

12:50 VC park
15:50 VC Park
16:09 Holmdel the grassy course.
Freshman Cross Country only:
60-70MPW
1600m- 4:58 (practice)
3200m- 11:01 (practice)
5k-17:52 (consistently around 18 flat on multiple courses)
Quick improvement but couldn't sustain high mileage at such a young age. Got a stress fracture and every comeback attempted in HS led to a rush back to unsustainable high mileage, three time trials a week, etc. School's program really sucked but I guess that's not what you asked. ;)
avg. 16-22 mi/week
9:37.30 for 3200m

Yea apparently only ppl who were 4:30 milers in HS post on these threads.
I did ~30 mpw for 3 yrs in HS and ended up with a 5:20 mile. (Male)

A lot of the mileage was long and slow, but we did pick it up from time to time. I ran lower mileage in college.

30-40 MPW in season--if you include warm up and cool down. Take those out, probably more like 25-30 MPW.
5:09 Mile
10:20 Two Mile. Slow but steady. Didn't run the mile much because I was the fourth guy on the team--but the second best two miler. I suspect I could have run the mile faster-but didn't get too many swings at it.
From Western Colorado-so all of these were run at 6000 feet plus.
And one more thing--I've been to a high school cross country meet. Unless it's the state meet, I generally don't need two hands to count the kids that break 17:00. Yet I read this site and read about dozens of 4:20 milers and 15 and change 5K runners.
Either this website is the greatest collection of high school studs ever assembled, or the greatest collection of bull shitters.

I probably ran 20-25 miles freshman/soph year
35-40 junior year
I ran 2:01/2:37/4:38 (1600 split)/17:34 5K (really fast course)
40-45 senior year/50-55 mpw in the summer
I ran 1:59 (split)/2:34/4:27 mile/17:04 5K (moderate course)
Internet (Dyestat/LRC) really helped me as did my coaches as I reframed what I could do, and also developed a passion for the sport. I played tennis sophomore year, and my best mark was an outlier 2:49 1000 and a mid 18s 5K that year.
