Triathlete trying for Guiness Record caught cheating?? Thoughts....

I would not rely on any timing results from HITS. They routinely screw up even basic race timing.

I won a 10k they put on as part of a multi distance race event. My official time was off by about 30 seconds, they had the second place runner officially 1 second behind me. I linked their own video of me winning by over 25 seconds, and a start line pic of us starting together. There was no finish clock.

RD basically said "nothing we can do, we'll do better next time"

I've heard similar stories from other friends about their timing screw ups.

So yeah, this guy may be off, but counting on HITS for accurate time and splits isn't super reliable.

The accused was posting his excuses last night and has since deleted all of his comments......He posted the reason for his fast 1/2 time was because the course was flat, so he is trying to say the overall time is accurate. He also posted that the reason he didn't have any data is because his watch died, but as in the article he stated it was because of "satellite reception."

You guys in the forum know running more than most, so I am just wanting your thoughts on the 1:32 1/2, because the accused had posted he ran that time and that it was correct.....and again now he has deleted all comments.

Cheating when trying to break a record, and especially when charities are involved just grind my gears I guess you can say.

So what if he got lost or cut the course? Dude is coming in practically DFL right around the cutoff/course closure times. I'm pretty sure that's normal in long course tri.ll they try to get you off e course/back to the start.

Shit I'm worried about somebody stealing my bike coming in as late as I do in a 70.3 (usually just barely under 6h aka slow as fkuc ), with a sad 2H flat or so half marathon. (My standalone half PR is only 1:42 lol so it's about right)

Anyway if I was him I'd just be honest and say 'look I was over the cutoff and was worried about the tiny race volunteers going home and my bike getting pinched' lol

MeHereYouWere, I agree with everything said so far.....I think he is using the names of the charities to fund his endevor. This is very misleading to anyone who donates. I also saw a comment where the blog was emailed by this guy and his reason for running the 1:32 split was that the course was flat. Nothing about cut-offs etc., I repeat, he said the course is flat. For the life of me, I wish a flat course would take my 1:37 half time down to 1:15 or lower according to his time drop. So it seems this guy is actually claiming the 1:32 was real. Deleted his comments, so he can try to change his story etc.

The real losers here are anyone who helped fund this guy. As I am beginning to think they were misled.

My interest in this is not only charity fraud, but that it makes it really hard for all the rest who will actually try to do something great for charity, or themselves etc., and they may need support. The more cheating fakes out there, the harder it is for those to get support from companies after they have been burned by these types of individuals.

The Sub-2 group should hire this guy for site selection.

I am going to update the story, but I am stuck in the middle of a site upgrade.

Anything contributed to The Wish Runner Project link goes 85% to his expenses according to him. I have this in email.

He has a direct donation link to Make A Wish on his site.

The direct link to the Children's Tumor charity is not a good url..

Wish Runner link is prominent..and nowhere does he say that 85% of those donations go to him.

Yeah, I am aware that the triathlon was a cluster--but when I asked him about this, all he said to me directly was that it was a flat course, and that's why he was fast.

He also said on FB after the race that he had satellite issues so no GPS.

on my FB page he posted that his watch died a mile in.

While I don't trust the HITS timing, his time looks ok..others times were off likely due to miscalculating overall times due to the wave start.

In my opinion, he just needs to state clearly how the donations work on his page. He probably won't be DQ'd from that triathlon, but if he continues, we will have plenty to look at.

His schedule showed a Tri this weekend in California. He was not there.

Why won't I name him??? The article names him. Wishrunner, Jason Easter etc.. I used "accused" because I don't feel this is anywhere near over based on his intital comments and reactions which he has since deleted....

I applaud any effort to rid our sport of fraud/cheaters, doubler my hats off to you man.

Probably a timing mistake and this guy tried to claim the mistaken time. HITS has screwed up my splits and times mitre times than I can count.
