Jon Olsen (2:27 marathoner), first North American to break 12 hours for 100 and 2013 24hr world champion (269.675 km / 167.568 miles) hosted the 2nd edition of the Riverbank One Day Classic 24 hour track race in Modesto, CA where a host of runners aimed to make the US 24 hour team, and chase age group records. The field included 2 of the top 3 all-time women at 100 miles (on any surface) including newly minted 100 mile WR holder (2:39 marathoner; 13:45:49 100 mile) Gina Slaby.
Certainly no dark horse to be in the cards for the win having run an excellent 147 miles at Desert Solstice track invitational, Courtney Dauwalter put on a masterclass running a sterling 250+ km. The final tally (including her final partial lap) has yet to be posted, but her run is the new (any surface) womens American Record for 24hrs, besting Sabrina Little's AR by ~ 3miles. It is the 6th best performance all-time, missing 5th place by ~10-20 meters! Mami Kudo's 255.303 km is now firmly within her grasp. She will go head to head against 250km 24 hour runner Maria Jansson at the 24 hour World Championship this summer in Dublin. Will we finally see a woman top 160 miles?
oh, back to the race, Courtney won the race, topping former 24hr team member and Riverbank mens winner Rich Riopel, by ~4 miles.
This is a great time to tune in to watch a glorious time for US women 24hr running.
