Sad, but doesn't look good for Berlin as we might lose Kipsang to politics. Kenyan elections are in August and he's running for parliament. Such a class runner and person, Kipsang.
He may wind up running Chicago though -- he wants to win all the majors and Boston and Chicago are the only ones left.
Obviously the US seems to have much better top end talent/results by the 3 athletes that represent the US, but in terms of vast depth they do much better in the marathon. I'd say the US also seems to get the most of the athletes they send to world/Olympic championships in the marathon over any other country. The US performances at Rio were as good as anyone could have realistically hoped for.
I need one of those Asics coats the award ceremony crew is wearing.
2:13:58 for Bumbalough unofficial
2:13:55 bumby
"so you liked the course right? RIGHT?!?!?!"
If Bumby is #158 he ran

2:13:58 for Bumby
Sara Hall seems to be creeping up on Saina. less than 10 seconds behind thru 35k
2:13:55 or 2:13:58 for Bumbalough. Not sure which is more official. Nice debut for him.
Betsy Saina is blowing up big time.
At 20k she was on 2:20:53 pace
At 30k 2:23:36 pace
At 35km 2:26:47 pace
Sara Hall is having a great race. She'll be the first North American based athlete. On 2:26:59 pace at 35km but not fading as much as Saina.
I just feel like we don't pick one flat course marathon and send 50 guys out in 1:04 on race day in the US.
We've had some stacked half marathons and the trials in 2012. It was disappointing to have 200 people in the best shape of their lives last February to suffer through the heat.
We also value historic races like Boston or New York where you might run 2:15 but crack the top-10.
Big PB for Chepchirchir

don't the Olympics and worlds count as majors?
Massive PB 2:19:47 for Sarah Chepchirchir.
8 straight years under 2:05.
4 minute PR! Wow!

Chepchirchir's improvement is unreal. Here are her three career marathon results:
2:30:08 2016 Hamburg
2:24:13 2016 Lisbon
2:19:47 2017 Tokyo
