Zach Perrin fell and broke his arm during the start of the Husky Classic 3k. Race was restarted and he ran a 15s PR.
Step one, fall and break arm at start
Step two, have race restarted
Step three, run 15s PR and break 8min in 3k

Respect. Maybe it depends on the break but running hard with a broken or strained arm is not comfortable
Umm Wetmore didn't call him a hero. They have a hero of the week/meet whatever award. Sorta like a hustle helmet or something to that effect. He was not calling him a hero or saying his actions were heroic.
Maybe just rename it bad ass of the week.
That being said- takes some balls to do what he did. Good on him.
And I quote:
"The hero of the day was Zach Perrin," head coach Mark, Wetmore said.
Are you going to say Wetmore has a Hero of the Day award?
What a dumbazzz
It was clear that he was jacked up when he fell, he's tough to run 7:55 or whatever off of that.
Yeah i watched that race live on FLO and noticed that he kept looking at his hand before the restart and showing guys next to him. It looked like he'd been spiked in the hand or something and was trying to shake it off. I guess it was much worse than that. Solid run and impressive he was able to put it behind him till after the race!
Jesus, everyone has to be a hero in America

Why do people on this website say things with such confidence when they have no idea.
Old fat guy just running his mouth without reading the article. Why?
Alternative facts....
No evidence of a broken arm...the guy hurt his arm & the press / Wetmore overplays it because everybody loves stories on everyday heroes.
Yawn...
Yeah, Mark Wetmore..."Mr. Overplay". Good thing we have anonymous posters on the internets to point this out.

The kid has guts plain and simple.
Its something that is severely laking in american distance running at all levels.
We are content with being the first american. Afraid to race outside the comfort zone. Content with just getting a shoe contract and training.
Hero of the day does not equal being called a hero. There is a difference.
During Gouchers days at CU Wetmore would give "head bones" to his athletes for significant performances. So why is having a "hero of meet" such a ridiculous idea? The NHL has its 3 stars. same thing.
mad props to him! Respect for not being a pansy and racing to a huge PR. Wonder how much faster he would have been without the broken arm.

Please don't ever let facts get in the way. It muddles up things here on Letsrun.
when did anyone say having a "hero of the meet" was a ridiculous idea?
Wrong. Did not happen.
Would have been more impressive if it was a broken foot. You barely use your arms when running.
