I remember Galen Rupp saying that even for guys that run well below 4:00, that it's still pretty tough to break 4:00 when you try to do it solo, with no help.
How fast do you have to be to make a solo 3:59 possible?

I've only done it once, in the middle of the night, and I took the watch off and threw into the river. Never told anyone.
It depends on who you are. Plus, if you have to ask, it will not happen. If you can run 3:58, you can break 4 solo.
Would think a guy who can run consistently 3:36/3:37 and 3:54/3:55 could do it.
Tough to do. Every time somebody goes for a fast 4xmile relay it ends up disappointing. The studly team gets way ahead and then all of a sudden soloing sub 4 is tough. How many sub 16's have ever been run? There you go.
I was able to run 4:39 in races as a master, but never broke 5:00 running solo, despite some serious attempts in early season, when I was running sub-4:50. Probably could have at some point later, but I used that fitness in races instead of time trials. I'm sure the pros feel the same way.
Did Komen run sub-4:00 solo on the second mile of one of his sub-8:00 two miles?
WHY ARE WE YELLING
It ain't my nogga
So NJNY just announced they are going for the WR in the indoor 4 x mile Friday at the Armory. Can they scare 16:00? That would be 4 solo sub 4's.
Gregorek's not running Cus he's Asics, not Hoka. Cabral in his place. Prob giving up 5 seconds there.

It's really hard dude. C'mon alredy. Almost impossible...
Webb went solo on a 3:46.
What about breaking 1:41 solo?
Didn't QC break 4:00 for the first time in a solo effort?
Really? The guy who ran 4:01 as the last rep of a 5xmile workout, half an hour out from his 2 mile AR, said that?

I saw the same clip. Rupp was in college. He had just run a 3:59 to sew up the collegiate 4x mile record for Oregon. He needed every bit of that 3:59 as I remember cus they didn't break the record by much. He remarked how hard it was to run sub 4 by yourself.

In conjunction with which scheduled meet?
What are the rules for this to be called a legit race? I assume three teams to start the race at minimum and the meet to have some minimum number of events.

Not sure what makes it officially "legit" but with Frank Gagliano and Ray Flynn involved, you can bet they meet the criteria.

Exactly.
I can only do it if I get a beer every lap.
