Trialswatcher, Kip Keino's conversion should obviously not be six seconds because he was born and raised at altitude and he never ran faster than 3:34, but probably 3-4 seconds would be reasonable. The reason I think that Ryun's time was worth 3:31, which he never ran, was because this was probably the only race in that era, at least in which Ryun was a participant, in which he had very fast pacers to chase. He had mono that year, but the previous year 1967 at sea level with pacers, he was certainly worth sub 3:30 on a dirt track. He closed a 3:38 that year with roughly 36.5 300m on a dirt track.
