Big deal he has to train on campus.
Could have been avoided.
He can accept punishment or quit team. Maybe coach will read here and forgive the poor lad and he can win some insignificant high school event.
Would guess he attends a privileged school.
If the guy had a heart attack would it have been funny?
1. We passed from the front
2. Passing him was unavoidable
3. I go to public school in one of the poorest counties in the country
Oh, that explains the overreaction. Trump country.

6/10. This is some good trolling.
Yea, I gave him an 8/10 until the part about "the new coach just met us last week." That lowered the score to 1/10.
Then the part about being in one of the poorest counties in the country lowered the score to 0/10. Nobody in the poorest county has 1) a computer to spend idle time on letsrun and 2) strong grammatical skills.
But good job anyways.

I should probably clarify: Our former head coach got fired for being incompetent, and our current coach only met me last week at our first outdoor practice. My distance coach who has known me since my sophomore year believes me, but has next to no power.
And this reveals that this is fake.
Should have swallowed your pride and let people call you out but instead you revealed yourself to be a troll.
2/10.
DO NOT admit to knocking him down since that would be assault and could land you in jail. If you have to apologize do it without incriminating yourself.
If trolling, 0/10
If not trolling, dude, you are in contention for the state 3200m, suck it up and do your workouts on campus. You are almost out and will actually be able to go to school that supports you. Live by the rules for a little longer, and tell the school they can go f**k themselves by playing by their rules and still come out on top.

Here is some free advice of which you can take or leave:
Have them arrange the face to face apology session. Before you apologize, look the guy right in the eye and ask him if he was literally and purposely thrown to the ground by you or one of your teammates, or if he was just startled. If possible, have him recall exactly what happened. Make constant eye contact with him. Hopefully he will recant his story, or at least your coach(es) will be able to see that he is lying. If he sticks to the BS story, then swallow your pride and say, "Then I guess I'll have to apologize." Then go for a long off-campus run.
I hope 80% of the responses so far are trolls! I think this approach above is solid. I also agree that you don't want to say anything that could conceivably incriminate you. I would add that you should have a parent/coach/teacher/mentor accompany you.
I'm inferring here, but it sounds like you are a talented & motivated runner. This will likely have a very positive impact in terms of what universities you will be able to choose from (regardless of whether we are talking about scholarships or not). Your college experience isn't the only thing that will shape the next 60 years of your life, but it certainly can be a huge factor.
So, is it really worth handcuffing your training, or even worse lead down a path that gets you kicked off the team, just because some jerk treated you unfairly? Suck it up. Swallow your pride. Put this behind you. Forget about it. Go become the man (or woman) that you meant to be.
Nah Man, If you apologise then your a schmuck! How can you let a guy do that, and if you apologise he'll think he owns the place and demand more apologise from others. I would not apologise, see what they do, try to persuade and if needed take it further. You cant let people manipulate.
Lol he isn't trolling. I know him personally and the head coaches are incompetent.
Since you say you are not a troll and are a senior in contention for 3200 glory, what are your college plans? If you are unsigned, and want to run in college, apologize and make nice with the new coach.
You don't want the new coach to tell recruiters about your attitude and "cancer in the clubhouse" and all that stuff.
And I agree with earlier posters. Pretty good trolling, 6/10

You're a senior. If your coach after 3.5 years thinks it's possible that you grew am old man to the ground and laughed as you ran off, you must be a total douche.
Whatever you do don't apologize, that's an admission of guilt.

Man up and accept it - Congrats to the coach
I told you exactly what happened, but I assume that your borderline illiteracy made understanding it kind of difficult.
^this is the correct way to respond to the foolish old men that inhabit letsrun. Take note kids. Keep running off campus and good luck in your race dude.
Bruh this is so dumb. I find it insane how some random guy can mess your training up and get away with it easily.
The whole "privileged school" point is totally and 100% invalid. It's actually the opposite and I know that bc I also attend that school. I find this laughable that you make this assumption.
Suck it up! If Bob, what's his name, can train all winter under Miami University's football stadium and win Olympic gold in the 5000, you can win your state meet 3200 by staying on campus.
If he was with the first to pass the old man how does he know if the slower runners behind him didn't knock him down?
First off, I really like SWAZ's story. I think its amazing. Believe me. Now I dont no much about the old man, who tipped you off but I do think he is a great guy, a very great guy. Believe me. But if there is a problem, you have to fight back. You have to do a good job in fighting back. Don't end up like crooked Hillary!! WIN!
OP
You are impressed with yourself, and everybody else is always wrong.
When you go to college, and if you run in college you will quickly become NOBODY.
