Him and his brother have been on a podcast I heard. They are trained by their dad and basically said they do loads of miles and go faster than most at their level would on long runs. They reckon they're made of sterner stuff that most and öare less likely to get injured than average.
Really???
“It was a good race to be part of and sort of a stepping stone going to Japan and running 60-flat,†he said, referencing the thrilling finish at Great Edinburgh where Korir nipped him steps from the line. Hawkins‘s improvement boils down to one thing, he says: mileage.
“It’s just CONSISTENT MILEAGE THE LAST THREE OR FOUR YEARS, having consistent training, very LITTLE INJURY and moving up to the marathon and that bit of mileage,†he said.
“That big step seems to have sparked and made me bloom. It’s CONSISTENT TRAINING really, nothing special. It’s the culmination of 100-PLUS MILES A WEEK. That’s all.â€
High Volume-High Intensity Training???
That is an interesting idea... but Callum needs to add heavy squats and Yoga to his training.
Callum Hawkins also needs to come to Flagstaff so he can train at altitude with Feyisa Lilesa (2016 Olympic Marathon Silver Medalist…and the guy who just beat Callum by 4 seconds at the NYC Half-Marathon in 1:00:04. I hope that Callum can remember running against Feyisa (from Flagstaff) Lilesa at the NYC Half-Marathon race…and seeing what Feyisa looked like from behind at the finish line after Feyisa sprinted past Callum FOR THE WIN!!!)

= Hilarious fun from the Ivy League.
