What kind of drugged out idiot names a town Woonsocket?
When I lived in RI in the '80s some ethnic enclaves were amazingly intact, with their own dialects.
Woonsocket was French-influenced, and a native Woonsocketian (I made that word up, I think), using a slightly different sentence structure than in "proper" English grammar, might say "Throw me down the stairs my coat" instead of "Throw my coat down the stairs to me."
Cranston was of heavy Italian ancestry. Everyone ended an argument with the sign of the cross, the words "bada BING!", and gunfire.
An entire conversation in Noth (not North) Prawvidence:
Person #1: Jeet?
Person #2: No, Jew?
Person #1: "D'yuz wanna go out for pizzer?"
Person #2: Indeed, what a lovely idea, my good man!
Well, that last line? Fuggeddabouddit...
ON THE TOPIC OF RUNNING...Let's not forget the great JOHN TRACEY...2x World Cross Country Champion and 1984 Olympic marathon silver medalist. Providence College, baby! And his brother RAY -- a grand lad was he as a Providence runner, and a grand coach is he at PC still, with many All-Americans having succeeded under his tutelage. And GEOFF SMITH, two-time Boston Marathon winner, is a Providence College grad.
(Spoken with a heavy Irish brogue...) Jesus! Mary! Joseph! Both Celtic Hoops and I botched our spelling. Make that JOHN TREACY, with Celtic Hoops being spot-on with the surname spelling.
Rhode Island once kicked the crap out of my country in a war.

Otherwise great place to run.
Sure was!
I met John Treacy at our local YMCA when I was training for the NYC Marathon, a couple of years after his Olympic silver. And that same summer/fall I got Lyme Disease from ticks that munched on me as I trained in adjoining woods and farmers' fields.
cabinet, awful awful, stuffies, johnny cakes, New York System hot dogs, Dell's frozen lemonade, doughboys, and the list goes on. any state with that much idiosyncratic cuisine is worth a trip.
Pr5ovidence accent is one of America's worst. It's Elmer Fudd all the way.

There once was a man from Nantucket
Who kept all his cash in a bucket.
But his daughter, named Nan,
Ran away with a man
And as for the bucket, Nantucket.
But he followed the pair to Pawtucket,
The man and the girl with the bucket;
And he said to the man,
He was welcome to Nan,
But as for the bucket, Pawtucket.
Then the pair followed Pa to Manhasset,
Where he still held the cash as an asset,
But Nan and the man
Stole the money and ran,
And as for the bucket, Manhasset.
Central Falls is an urban utopia, 50% unemployment , 70% Hispa ic, bankrupt city government, drugs are everyone's favorite hobby.
