Serously, because this is what someone would have to do to break 2 hours in the marathon theoretically.

I would say with confidence that Kipchoge, Bekele, Rupp, Kamworor and maybe Farah could do this yet none would come close to breaking 2 hours.
Nooooo......they would have to do 52 X 800 @ 2:17
Didn't Quenton Cassidy do something similar in AtoC?
I think anyone running 3:53 mile and 2:05 marathon could do that, based on my workouts. Yasso 800s start to break down at that pace.
Give them 1 day rest between, yes.
You need to define the rest.
Pat Porter could do 16x800 in 2:05 so I'm pretty sure much faster 10k guys could handle this workout.
Bekele's done 6x800 in 2:01 with 0:00 recovery before. Then he tacked on a 400 for good measure.
200 you moran.

OP didn't mention rest intervals which would be crucial.
But, I'm in agreement with 800ftw. Being old and slow I find it hard to relate to this type of workout but it just doesn't sound that hard for guys running 2:03 - 2:05 marathons.
Bart, are you going to weigh in here?
Yes, I have been called into to structure workouts for breaking 2 hours in the marathon by Nike. We'll start with 6 times 800 in 1:59 and build to 10 times 800 in 1:59 about 10 days prior to breaking the record. It is actually quite simple to break 2 hours in the marathon. You may thank me in advance for this ground breaking achievement.
Stupidest workout predictor ever. I can easily do 8x800 at 2.23 and I am not breaking 2.30 anytime in this life.

If you are speed based then they are so different to marathon running it can't be expressed enough.
I've run 8x800 with 2 mins rest in 2:25 and I don't think I could even finish a marathon. It's more like a 5k predictor for me.

True. I used to be able do 8x800 in well under 2:30 any day of the week, but I doubt I could have ever broken 3:00 in a marathon. Not that I tried - marathons not good for the body, in my unqualified opinion
This is correct for once wrote:

+1
This has been discussed many times. It's only used as a predictor if a runner is doing other training for a marathon.

Absolutely true re: marathons!
