Of course, we only have side of the story. This guy may be exaggerating quite a bit. With even he facts he gave, the driver was within his right to leave after the OP said he was ok.

You guys are unbelievable pricks. The OP was hit by a fvcking car, while crossing the street with a green light, by a driver making a "California stop" through a red light. Then you proceed to lecture him about how this is his fault.

Next time carry your gun and when the person hits you and tries to flee, just shoot at them. They (obviously) attempted to murder you. Just claim that they ran the red light, sped up and revved the engine right right before they hit you.
this
I misunderstood. I took it as you were crossing the street he was turning onto, I apologize. I was not trying to place blame on you but looking at if anything could be done after the fact. It still remains that there is no proof that is exactly what happened without a third party witness. Its sucks but it is what it is. Stay safe and be thankful it was only superficial wounds. Maybe this will help out a fellow runner be safer in the future.

I could not agree more. And the fact that this is a running website make this even more surprising. This remind of how rape victims are afraid to come forward because the response they get makes them feel shamed. Not to say that getting hit by a car is as bad as getting raped before anyone jumps on me for that. But the OP is taking a huge amount of abuse here because a driver hit them and some on the board are trying to find fault with them wherever possible.

People are stupid and careless. You need to go through life accepting that fact. Never assume someone can see you running just because you see them. Especially early in the dark, early morning. Especially when 2-ton vehicles that can end your life are involved. There are basic, common sense actions you can take to minimize your risk. Make them habit.
Now if the risk of getting hit by a car brings a certain flavor of excitement to your life, then that's fine. But don't complain when you get hit.
Hit by a Jeep Wrangler 2.5 years ago @ age 59. Injuries included 10 upper body broken bones including a vertebrae & a concussion. Accident was my negligence. Was running again in 8 weeks. Very, very blessed, fortunate & still running.
Have been running 40 years, very careful I thought. @ hospital trauma docs said they are seeing more & more runners, pedestrians & bikers. I run mostly, but not completely off road now. Point being, you never think it's going to be you & one day it is. Since I think about running safely so much more now & watch drivers & runners there are accidents out there waiting to happen. Now running or walking I am not fearful, but always on guard & aware. BE SAFE!!
Can you go back to the exact same spot and the same time and wait? I'd bet he drives the exact same route every morning. Recognize his car and get his plates.
I can't believe how many naive people there are on this site. I drove for a living for almost 40 years and know how hard it is sometimes to see runners, walkers and cyclists.
If you get hit by a car you are 'partly' responsible. The exception being: if you are hit by someone driving at night with their headlights off or hit by some moron that is intentionally trying to hit you.
It's your responsibility to make sure you don't get hit. It doesn't make any difference if the driver was at fault...you're the one that is injured or dead.
I never take any chances. Always assume they don't see you.
I always run behind cars at intersections.
I remember one time about 20 years ago when I was in downtown San Francisco with four other guys, two cab drivers, a bus driver and an armored car driver (poker buddies). We were on our way to a closed circuit boxing match. We were crossing a street on a green light and all of us were turning our heads like they were on a swivel. None of us were confident that some idiot wasn't going to run a light or come rolling around a corner.
This is the tragic world we live in now. The knowledge of serial killers, rapists, lunatics, drug addicts and other degenerates makes us automatically suspicious of our fellow men. The impact parasites like that have goes well beyond their immediate victims, they poison the collective consciousness of all of us with fear.
