The list of Canadians who were dropped is lengthy.
Too many athletes think sponsorship money is "free money" and they do not have to do anything other than have a large social media following. Shoe companies expect a return on their investment if they do not feel they are getting value for their investment you are done.
Welcome to reality you millenials
Sowinski was listed as unattached in the Iowa City meet 600. He was a NIKE guy

Evan Dunfee.
Christ the was so desperate he asked them just to give him shoes!!
response was no thanks.
You can listen to him on the Trackie.ca podcast talking about it. Very sad thing for one of the good hard workers who gives back and trains young athletes in his spare time.

I'm curious - what additional things do you suggest sponsored runners do to improve their marketability and return on investment , other than racing and social media?

Run Faster in the races they do run.
Running fast is basically all that matters.
Wrong.
Running fast is no longer as important as social media presence.
If you want to be sponsored, read up a bit on how to increase Social Media (Facebook/Twitter) interaction (likes, shares, and so on).

You clearly know nothing about marketing. Who gets paid more - Rupp or Kipchoge? Centro or Kiprop? I can guarantee you it's Rupp and Centro.
Sharapova is the highest earning female athlete in the world and she's not half the player Serena is.

But the question was what can runners "do" - yes better looking females can earn more but that isn't something they can necessarily "do."
Wardian still has 99 other companies that sponsor him. He's always looking for new sponsors and some non-traditional.
