I wonder if his friends who made the bet were runners? There's no doubt he is capable. Really they are betting against his dedication to the task.
He is at 212 lb. I'd guess 175 lb + 25 mpw will be min requirement to break 16.

Yeah, he'll do this easily if he tries. All about weight. He could get down to 150 or 160 and cruise....
Some of us are runners, most of us were. You've hit the nail on the head, it is exactly a bet against his dedication. Colin likes pizza and beer too much. His diet was awful even when he was a pro so losing the weight will be the hardest part for him. There is no doubt that he can do it but actually doing it is a different matter.
It's more of an incentive for him to get healthy again because he was starting to look like he had eaten his baby
I was 118kg at 28 on February 1st 2012 and ran a 9.15 3k on the track in late November that year.
I was only a 3.56 1500 guy as an 18 year old and had been totally sedentary for at least 6 years. I also did not have a specific goal to run x time - just to lose weight and complete a marathon sub 3,
He will do it easily if he is committed. Injuries can be avoided.
all in or all out... some people only see those two options. either go workout every single day and eat super healthy or do nothing at all and eat like an elephant. find a middle path that assures you to run consistently. for someone with those stats it should be no problem running sub 16 even on 4 (very carefully planned) days a week.
rekd
OP is self-promoting, similar post last year and similar goal 'watch me, former pro, get back into shape'. I followed his youtube channel and it was a painful flop. He's got no idea how to do this, he ended up with all sorts of problems in his hip and could barely run. I don't think he even lost any weight.
He's a big guy now, no doubt about that. The only way he'll ever get back into shape is by dieting hard. Get the weight down while doing body weight exercises, once the weight is reasonable then go start running.
With that said, I'd love to see him pull this off but my money would be on him failing injured again.
OP is Colin...
No I'm not, just saw this and thought it was interesting. x
I didn't post this, someone just messaged me to say there was a post about the bet on here so I came to check it out. Yeah, last year I did post a "get back in to shape" post on here and I agree it was a failure in running terms. However, I did lose weight - I was roughly 92kg this time last year and got down to 82kg by June when I stopped. I became a dad and had a lot of other things going on. I got injured a bit mainly because I wanted to run a lot faster than my fat arse could.
We'll see if I can do it this time. if not I am in tattoo city haha.

Good work sir - now, put down that bag of crisps!
Hey its a rice cake now
Easily , once the weight is off .

I'd suggest to him that he incorporate cycling into his "base phase." If he hits cycling hard from now until say mid-year, he would lose 50 pounds pretty easily. Then use a couple months of just moderate speed training and he'd be sub 16 easy easy easy.
What? He's going to lose 50lbs by mid year? That would be a consistent calorie deficit of 1000 calories or more per day, 2 lbs per week. I think it will be easy enough to lose weight if he runs/cycles a lot, but not 50lbs in 5-6 months
I think he can easily do it, seems like a cool bet to me.* Almost* interested enough to click on the instagram link

How is the running going now mff?
...stopped running in 2012 and 'had a baby and got fat'.
I'm taking the over cuz he had a baby. Not only did he get fat, he underwent a drastic genetic and biological transformation unknown to our science and technology.
If he commits to it properly i think he will do it easily. It is hard to change your lifestyle drinking/ eating overnight. Theres also the possibility of niggles and injuries although I think hes mentioned hes not injury prone. For someone that has run sub 8 for 3k a 16min 5k should be a walk in the park. Its not like hes late forties.
Here are his stats think he has run faster for 5km

The problem is his weight. Most runners keep their weight down by the amount if running they are doing. If he's 15st and tries to lose the weight through running he will most likely get injured on his way down from 24 to 16 mins
~4:10 mile, 9:00 2 mile and 14:50 5K is considered pro in the UK? Screw this America shit, I'm going home.
He'll do it easily if he gives himself until the later part of the year to do it!
He's i a bit of a Catch 22 situation initially; his weight will make it difficult (dangerous in the sense of easily picking up injuries) for him to do much running but the easiest way for him to rid himself of some weight is to run! I've returned from a reasonably lengthy layoff a mere stone overweight and it was very, very difficult to do any meaningful running until at least half of that was gone. By that I mean holding anything like a decent pace for more than a couple of minutes.
The big advantage he has is that once he gets in anything like half decent shape he doesn't have to do much speed work; 16 minute 5K pace is not fast for someone who has run 3:37!!
