L.A. is the most iconic Olympics City in the world where tens of thousands of athletes representing countries from all over the world live and train permanently.
Budapest and Paris has to construct 20 new venues apiece to win the bid. L.,A. has all the venues built already except for the new Rams/Chargers NFL stadium.

When I think Olympics, LA is not on my radar.

Athens? You mean this city?

I've always wondered why refugees don't go to stable countries like India where they will be welcomed more openly. Sure, it's not a rich Western country and it may be a little harder to get settled but at least it's safe and you know you will be allowed entry immediately.
Los Angeles invented the world wide live sports TV show. When the world thinks of sports Los Angeles is where they think of. 2024 Los Angeles is bigger than politics, it's the Olympics.

Good. Hosting the Olympics is a terrible idea.
Thank you. This could be a silver lining of the ban, which, whether you support it or not, seems like it could have been executed a lot more smoothly.
https://www.aeaweb.org/research/are-the-olympics-ever-worth-it-host-citySorry for double-posting, but here's the money quote IMO from the above article: "Infrastructure improvements can provide a form of fiscal stimulus to a city with a slack labor market, but if the city’s economy is near full employment anyway in the years leading up to the Games, the extra construction jobs are more likely to come at the expense of other sectors."
LA has an unusually high minimum wage (http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Higher-Minimum-Wage-Goes-Into-Effect-in-Los-Angeles-Today-385226081.html) so it's not like they have a lot of slack here, and though construction costs are likely to be lower for them than for cities that haven't hosted in the past, labor would drive costs way up.
Overall a bad idea and they'll be lucky to get rejected. The bid itself is costly and in a sane world would be dropped as well.
Maybe It's "payback" for losing California and Los Angeles so badly in the elections...and also a jab at the film industry and Ms. Streep?
Not True. L.A. is the Media, Entertainment, Sports, Recording Arts, Style, Fashion, Internet Content, Social Media, and Motion Picture capitol of the world. The entire economy and culture of L.A. is centered around spectacular world class events.

No way that the IOC will award the olympics to a country that bans travelers from IOC member countries.
Was fun while the bid lasted I guess.
I heard something about a 3 month pause in immigration from nations that produce a lot of terrorists, but hadn't heard about a ban.
By the time the vote is up... no one will be banned.
The order is a 90 day ban on people from those 7 countries. At that point, there is no "ban".
New Olympic Teams for #LA2024:
ISIS
Hamas
Pedophiles of the dark Web
Islamic Jihad
Mexican Mafia

I live in L.A. and hope that you're right. The city throws away millions of dollars to third worlders who for the most part collect social services without paying a cent in income taxes. This is a huge problem that SJW types ignore because they don't see the bigger picture and problems of subsidizing 70 - 90% of certain populations.
The taxpayers would just be hit with another bill, despite the sponsors that organizers might get on board.

Didn't know they had ski jumping in the 2004 Summer Olympics
Trump can't kill the L.A. Olys 2024. Another Summer Games would be 'just another day at the office', "run-of-the-mill", for L.A. given every week there's some world leading event going on here. We just had the SAG Awards. USC/UCLA hosted the 84 Games. USC hosted the 32 games. Another Olys in would be the best for the IOC since everything and everyone concerned already does events on a global scale every 52 weeks of the year.

Tens of thousands? That seems like a stretch.

It is going to seem weird, but I think of Berlin. So many things we associate with the Games started there. Plus it might have been the ultimate intersection of politics and sports (although Munich, Montreal, LA and Moscow can lay claim there as well).

Funny, but the article is about the poor history of Olympic cities and the structures built.
F U C K .... the LA Sports stars number in the 100,000s Serena, Koufax, Venus, Tiger, Joe Montana, Allyson, John Elway, Kobe, Gretzky, magic, Kareem, Drysdale, Nomo, English Gardner ... where the H E L L else DESEVES the Summer Olympics of 2024.
