Couldn't agree more. The ban also bans people from those countries who have green cards (legal ability to work and live in the US). So if you are here you get to stay, if you are out of country you don't get allowed back. So let's pretend the country was Kenya instead of Somalia. I've read it may be unconstitutional. Who knows how quickly they can sort that out because non-citizens have less rights in court to begin with and if you're out of the country how to you establish jurisdiction in the country to sue?

Wejo, I'm not an American but even I know that the constitution only applies to US citizens. If Trump's executive action fell down legally, the whole system would be in a flux, considering Jimmy Carter first applied a similar action in 1979. There was bans on Germans, Japanese, and Communists entering at various times throughout the last century.

My view is that in twenty years time many people will regret Trump not going far enough. I think he has done a small ban as a feeler to see if it is legally challenged and if more recent immigrants commit acts of terrorism in future like in San Bernardino he can add their country of origin to the list.

Saudi Arabia should be in the list instead of Iran. I haven't heard about terrorists from Iran for a long time. You can argue that the Iranian governement may fund some terrorist organisations, but then again Saudi Arabia should be there

And yet Pakistan is not on the list. This order is an incoherent mess. They just decree it as law with no notice. People with visas have no idea their situation may have changed mid-flight. Homeland Security had to interpret what it means and at first they thought it excluded green cards and permanent US residents. Then Steve Bannon overrides that. He's just a political hack, not a national security expert.

The Republicans in Congress are feckless. What happened to Reagan's shining city on a hill? Now we're detaining our own residents. And if you're Iraqi with a visa you probably helped out our military in some way, with the understanding of some protection. We're not meeting our commitments and we're going to pay for it.

I pointed this out in the primaries. Trump wasn't even the most radical candidate on this issue among Republicans. Ted Cruz's plan seemed to be to not only kick Muslim immigrants out but to KEEP them out. At least Trump says he wants to keep them out until they are vetted.

Yes and no. All the racists did vote to leave, however the prime issue was having open borders and the resultant increased labour pool and demand on public services and housing.

Yes, it is incredibly troubling. It isn't all Trump though. I became worried when Trump won, but the bigger worry was that the republicans retained control of congress at the same time. If people don't think that is a racist party, they are fooling themselves. Part of why Trump was able win the republican primary was because he was willing to say the nasty things out loud that other republicans only would imply.

Trump's order is a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

First. refugees are already vetted. It takes over 2 years for them to get here. What more is "extreme" vetting? Is there something that's being missed? Of course not. It's just that his supporters think refugees are waltzing into this country, which isn't even true.

Second, we haven't had an attack in our country by a foreign terrorist in forever. Did we have ANY in Obama's term? I can't think of one. ALL the attacks are from American citizens or people who have lived here for decades.

There is NO problem with refugees getting into this country and then attacking us. Hasn't happened. Doesn't happen. Trump's order isn't a solution because there isn't a problem.

You are a joke. Green card holders will just get an extra routine screening. So a Somalian with a GC may, unless he has a shady past, spend a few extra seconds at the border control while the clerk types in some letters.

Agreed! As a dual uk USA citizen I am outraged and disturbed by what is happening in the states. This monster needs to be removed from office. America is becoming everything that it has stood against. I am also ashamed that Teresa may didn't stand up to dictator trump and tell him that his policies are natzi like.

It's pretty sad there are people on here you think this stuff is a joke, even if you think he's a doper or whatever reason you have for hating him, he might not be able to see his family for at least three months maybe more, and that's a sad thing and all for no reason.
