Funny how the evidence you provide contradicts your post:
You claim large percentages want to implement Sharia Law as the governing law.. Ok let's go to the study findings:
"Support for making sharia the official law of the land varies significantly across the six major regions included in the study. In countries across South Asia, Southeast Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East-North Africa region most favor making sharia their country’s official legal code. By contrast, only a minority of Muslims across Central Asia as well as Southern and Eastern Europe want sharia to be the official law of the land."
1. You cherry picked study results from certain regions of the world
2. The specific study question was whether the respondent would want Sharia law implemented IN THEIR COUNTRY
Let's not cherry pick and look at some other "findings"
"Muslims differ widely as to whether sharia should be open to multiple understandings."
That sheds much more light on what it means to different people. Specifically, most were interested in the handling of domestic disputes under Sharia. That is a very narrow scope vs saying they want to see the full by-the-book raw and violent interpretation in practice.
"Among Muslims who support making sharia the law of the land, most do not believe that it should be applied to non-Muslims."
Ahhh - did you happen to glance over that one? A rational person would come to the conclusion that most would not expect Sharia Law to become the law of the land in America since the Muslim population is relatively small. No different than other religious groups who might want or prefer something, but can't have it because it conflicts with a country's laws. There are some snake handling religious communities in Pennsylvania that break the law all the time, as they should not be handling poisonous snakes, but they do and sometimes there is a death from a bite. Should we get the FBI to track all those people or perhaps think about kicking them out of our country?
In essence, you are basing your attitude toward Muslims on your very loose interpretation of a narrow study. Shall I present to you some seemingly undemocratic/unpopular religious beliefs and wishes from other groups present in America and warn you about the dangers of letting more enter the country and roam free without supervision? You really should check your biases at the door. If you are really interested in drawing opinions and attitudes from facts then you can't cherry pick and generalize, you have to get in the weeds and challenge your thinking. Being a headline-driven simpleton is not going to translate to educated guesses and well-supported attitudes about different groups or topics.
Here's the pew study on Muslims in America, might be a bit more relevant. Do let us know what you think.
