Fox News is full of articles defending Trump today.
Fox Headlines:
Quid Pro No: Trump’s GOP allies say diplomat’s closed door testimony failed to connect dots on Ukraine case
Testimony Destroyed: Impeachment witness' claims crumble under questioning: McCarthy
Marc Thiessen: US foreign aid to Ukraine and elsewhere often comes with strings attached – a quid pro quo
I read the first article.
They are trying to claim that even though a quid pro quo was planned and implemented, that's OK because Ukraine didn't know about it before Tiny's phone call. (Seriously, that's the weird logic Rep. John Ratcliffe was selling.)
Three problems with that:
1) Ukraine almost certainly knew explicitly before the phone call. I expect that will come out during further testimony.
2) Even if Ukraine didn't know explicitly what Tiny wanted from them, Tiny made it pretty clear that "I need you to do me a favor though.." So if they didn't know explicitly before the phone call, they sure knew explicitly afterward.
3) Before the phone call, Ukraine definitely knew implicitly that Tiny intended a quid pro quo. They knew that the military aid money had not flowed to them as expected and there must be a reason for it. They knew that Tiny wanted an investigation into the Bidens. It wasn't hard to put two and two together.
