1) Romney is a good person and a much better option than Trump, of course.
2) Romney already failed to win, and he would have an even tougher time winning this time -- he's seen by some as a loser,
Nixon lost to Kennedy in 1960 but came back and won in 1968.
2012 to 2020 is the same 8 year span.
Romney lost to an incumbent president with no scandals while the economy was making steady improvements every month. He really had no chance. Romney's biggest pitch was that Obama implemented Romney's Massachusetts healthcare for the whole country but it should be done state bu state. That didn't sell well.
If Romney were to be the 2020 nominee, he would not be going against an incumbent president.
He'd likely face Biden or Warren.
Yes, the Republican party has been stained and that would hurt Romney. But as we see, there is a fierce group of voters that will not vote Democrat and would rally around Romney.
I don't see Trump winning Pennsylvania but Romney could.
The Republican party needs to make a quick decision about which path they want to go down.
Be the party of Trump, fighting all the way.
Or try to get their dignity back.
Even if they go with Romney or someone else and lose, it would be better for the Republican party's future than to stick with Trump and lose. That would take longer to recover from. They will have defectors sticking with Trump.
Most Republican voters are good, decent people. They have to feel a little dirty right now.
