Okay, calm down, everybody. Yes, I detest Donald Trump, but let's get real.
.
1) He's not going anywhere soon. (A good thing, IMO--lots of people *still* don't seem to understand how terrible things could get in Mike Pence's Gilead.) His resigning would be an admission of failure, and we've seen enough to realize that that's not something he would be likely to do.
.
2) Any House vote on articles of impeachment would be many weeks, likely months away. Some people on both sides are acting like it'll be next Tuesday.
.
3) It's not even certain that there *will* be a vote on articles of impeachment; if there is a vote, it could (based on current information) as easily go against those articles as for them: a coin flip (at this point).
.
4) All that stuff about "30 GOP senators would convict!" stemmed from *one* secondhand report of *one* senator's ALLEGED observation that if anonymous voting were allowed, 30 Republicans MIGHT vote against DJT.
.
5) But anonymous voting in the Senate would *not* be allowed and you could probably count on your thumbs--certainly on your fingers--the GOP senators who would *actually* vote against DJT based on currently-available info. Most Republican senators want to be re-elected, and a vote to convict and remove him from office would end their Senate careers.
.
6) So, based on current info, a 2/3 vote in the Senate to convict President Trump is out of the question and it's very possible that the votes to acquit would be an absolute majority.
.
To summarize: Take a breath. Unclench that jaw. If a process is starting, it's going to be months--almost certainly well into next year--before it ends. Meanwhile, there's a lot of other, more immediate stuff that needs attending to, like a potential government shutdown. Lots of stuff to take care of NOW while the impeachment inquiry slowly plays out.
Relax, Jackson.
