Analysis aside, do you think Texas is not shifting to the left?
Texas last voted democrat in 1976. Before 1976 Texas voted blue for president 26 times and red 4 times. Texas is historically a blue voting state.

The Republican party didn't exist until 1860 and then it was the liberal party while Democrats were conservative and supported by the south.
1964 seems to be a turning point of the south not supporting Democrats.
But they did support Carter in 1976, who was from Georgia.
They went a little for Clinton (from Arkansas) in 1992 and were more solid red in 1996 and that's how it's gone since.
What no one talks about is what happened to Tennessee in 2000.
Everyone talks about Florida giving the election to W Bush.
Gore is from Tennessee.
Tennessee voted for Clinton in 1992 and 1996.
But voted for Bush in 2000.
If Gore won his home state in 2000, he would have won the presidency. But it seems deep red was defined that year.
So, the southern Republican trend doesn't go too far back.
And Texas has evolving demographics and a pretty good disdain for Trump right now.
2020 may be a swing back for them.
