This is the kind of thing that makes me partially wish it were appropriate to incorrectly interpret the meaning of "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." Meaning, of course that those who did this to this innocent kid deserve the same in kind.
Of course, that is not the meaning of that bit from the Bible...it is meant as a limiter of punishment for a crime so that someone isn't punished beyond what is justified.
It should also be noted that (depending on your Bible version), "Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord."
Now, I "partially" wish that the way it is often interpreted because I am a flawed human being. I resort to the intended meaning because I have 100% integrity 100% of the time and am a good one among humans.
"But wait, Flagpole, I thought you weren't a Christian?" I am not a Christian in that I do not believe there is a God and I do not believe the real life flesh and blood man we refer to a Jesus was the Son of God, and I do not believe in any of the magical nonsense. I do celebrate Christian holidays out of tradition and view them as secular at this point. I also believe there are good lessons in the Bible and believe those good lessons are worthy of being followed. I just don't assign any deity to them. There are also good lessons in Yoga, "Everything I need to know I learned in Kindergarten", "The Millionaire Next Door", and several other places. The Bible is not the only place to get good advice for living, and it doesn't ONLY have in it good advice for living...lots of things in there to be critical about.
So, long way to say those that did that to the kid in this story need some serious punishment.
