the trump job slump continues.
Rs keep claiming the economy is roaring.
Uh huh, boys, uh huh.
Trump is an IDIOT.
As part of his "emergency" declaration to allow him to exports weapons to Saudi Arabia -- yes, the nation where most of the 9/11 terrorists came from -- Trump has decreed that U.S. bomb maker, Raytheon, can team with the Saudi's to teach them how to make better bombs -- controls and guidance devices used for smart bombs, which are guarded technologies that are not allowed to be exported ... not the Trump would care he was giving such protected technology away to an enemy ... how many hotels and resorts are the Saudis allowing Trump to build in their country -- must be a lot?

reminds me obliquely of something I heard once, in a discussion of which branch of the armed services was best.
The marine guy said, basically, that if you have a project to be done, whether it is killing someone, dissembling a truck, climbing a mountain or reaching enlightenment, a group of Marines would do it best.
I always loved that idea and hope it is true. I know the Marines should probably be subsumed into the Navy, but having a culture like that must be amazing.
The marines think highly of themselves. The Army and Marines have similar jobs and are trained similarly. The Army has a lot more people. Marines don't even have their own medics. Army wins.
The military throws 10 ppl at a job 1 person could do.
Alan
Though I was never an army basher, training and culture are quite different, starting with basic training. The two forces are also utilized toward different objectives, Marines for narrow operations and broadly for front line duties, while army for large scale operations and functionally more occupational. Marines get attached to Army in most major missions. We call other branches our chauffers. Was in Baghdad early on in the invasion, never seen something as spectacular as the Army throw together a whole city inside a base in such a short time. It was even equipped with its own mall
Met excellent people in all branches. Marine grunt culture exceptional, YOLO mentality, lots of risk taking and brutally loyal to each other. Marines, especially infantry, tend be a$$holes, most are good a$$holes and it really helps the tough-minded culture, but there are some bad a$$holes too, grunts that fck up constantly and get to know the brig. They go away quickly. Seals get a lot of coverage but Rangers and Marine Recon are on par or exceeds them.
Bone spurs could never manage a week in any of the branches’ basic training.
Saudis spend a lot of money on my hotels and other properties. Why am I supposed not to like them?

Trump has declared that the Moon is part of Mars … via Tweet. People are calling Trump a fool, clown, demented, and worse! But, remember that Trump declared the he would put humans on Mars. By declaring the Moon is now part of Mars, Trump can cover his obese arse and instead land humans on the Mars Moon and claim he landed them on Mars!
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1137051097955102720For all of the money we are spending, NASA should NOT be talking about going to the Moon – We did that 50 years ago. They should be focused on the much bigger things we are doing, including Mars (of which the Moon is a part), Defense and Science!

That is one dumb tweet. it could be that he meant the moon is part of the much talked about mars mission, which is true; but this tweet is yet another daily example of how incoherent this guy is... donny, why don't you get off your phone and go eat another cheeseburger.
"cheeseberder"
Any chance he resigns by the end of the month?

It also contradicts itself. He says we shouldn't be going to the moon, but if we're going to use the moon as part of the trip to Mars then we have to go to the moon first.
It's remarkable that even after all the misspellings and poor wording in previous tweets he still doesn't have them reviewed. It would be so easy to text them to someone beforehand. He just doesn't seem to care and nothing embarrasses him. His personality us one of a kind.

His tariffs seem to be a bluff to get some sort of concession, but he isn't clear on that goal.
Maybe Mexico writes up some BS agreement that does nothing and he will hold it up as a triumph.
Like the first North Korea Nuclear agreement that meant nothing but he paraded as a success.
Such a con man.
What I wrote a few days ago.
Isn’t that basically what just happened?

It is the MO. Say or propose something stupid or unworkable. Then when his own people point out his stupidity and/or the fact that his proposal will actually hurt the situation rather than help, spend two weeks figuring out a way to come up with a "deal" which he feels he can present as a good one. To the rest of the thinking world, nothing changed.
As of next weekend, the current four-year presidential term will be 60% complete.
Hang in there, everybody!
I noticed Sally Vix’s thread about how MLK was a monster has been thoroughly discredited. Wrong again, babuschka!

If we extort and threaten our allies to achieve policy goals how will they respond in the future?
I guess we will see in the next few months if anything has changed in regards to immigration.

This is North Korea all over again. Nothing's changed but he declares a new "deal". His base eats it up and everyone else shakes their collective heads.
It's the MO.

So....will 6000 Mexican troops and "increased enforcement" reduce the number of immigrants crossing the US border to seek asylum? I don't think it will. Asylum seekers know they are better off crossing the border and seeking asylum than staying on the other side and waiting. If asylum seekers are turned away they will just cross illegally elsewhere.
I'm absolutely positive the business of helping asylum seekers cross into the US is a thriving one and no matter the policy asylum seekers and others will continue to cross into the US looking for a better way of life.
What is likely to happen now is immigration numbers will drop over the summer and Trump will say "look success!!" but those who are able to think will compare last year to this year and there will likely be an increase or same number. Of course immigration numbers would drop over the summer as summers are kinda hot for those traveling on foot.
On a side note....is the USMCA more dead now than ever?
Alan
Trump’s tweets are factual for his base. They are easy sound bites the mouth breathers can digest as patriotic (nationalist) actions. And FOX is always sure to filter out the “unimportant” details to give his tweets and actions max effect. Nothing is going to change that. The only question remains what will the Dem turnout be like? Also, impeachment will for the first time expose Trump to his base for what he is. They think he’s god this far. We need humans including Mueller to tell the story publicly. Yes FOX will filter much of the damage out but people will still know there is an accuse criminal in the WH. They should go for it.
what a complete putz. Of course there was no new deal - trump caved when the GOP and biz people rebelled. Mexico had already agreed to the key elements.
"WASHINGTON — The deal to avert tariffs that President Trump announced with great fanfare on Friday night consists largely of actions that Mexico had already promised to take in prior discussions with the United States over the past several months, according to officials from both countries who are familiar with the negotiations.
Friday’s joint declaration says Mexico agreed to the “deployment of its National Guard throughout Mexico, giving priority to its southern border.” But the Mexican government had already pledged to do that in March during secret talks in Miami between Kirstjen Nielsen, then the secretary of homeland security, and Olga Sanchez, the Mexican secretary of the interior, the officials said.
The centerpiece of Mr. Trump’s deal was an expansion of a program to allow asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico while their legal cases proceed. But that arrangement was first reached in December in a pair of painstakingly negotiated diplomatic notes that the two countries exchanged. Ms. Nielsen announced the Migrant Protection Protocols during a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee five days before Christmas."
