It means that that is Trump's walk-back on his "threat" because he does not want to suffer defeat by Congress. His base would be so angry. His base will cheer that Trump got their attention, and nothing changes.

U.S. TRADE ADVISER NAVARRO SAYS TARIFFS ON MEXICAN GOODS MAY NOT HAVE TO GO INTO EFFECT "BECAUSE WE HAVE THE MEXICANS' ATTENTION"
What does that mean?
Sounds like when I wrote "Maybe Mexico writes up some BS agreement that does nothing and he [Trump] will hold it up as a triumph."
Racket said the GOP would block it.
This says Mexico will "deal".
Six ways to Sunday, LL. Point is that it's not going to happen and this is all just damage control from the White House. It's exactly like when Trump said we're pulling out of Syria. His advisors were blindsided, people resigned, and it ended up not happening anyways.
I was wondering if Congress would actually put up a bill to block it and override his veto.
A phony deal with Mexico saves face all around on that.
This is kind of shocking. Could Tiny lose Texas?
Texas Quinnipiac poll released today:
Biden: 48%
Tiny: 44%

two things.
First, let's not nominate Elizabeth Warren. Really.
Second, regardless of who wins TX, the Rs are going to have to spend a bloody fortune in that enormous state to defend it. Which, in theory, will open up holes in MI WI PA NC AZ for the Ds to attack in.
Trump getting smashed in Michigan.
Although MI seems to poll strangely - it went to Bernie and Trump, against the polls.
but still, this is a huge deficit for Trump in a must-win state for him. Will this embolden a primary challenge to Trump?
"Biden, the former vice president, and Sanders, a senator from Vermont, led Trump by identical margins — 53 percent to 41 percent — among likely voters in the poll conducted for the Detroit News and the Detroit television station WDIV-TV.
South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg also led Trump in a hypothetical matchup by a smaller margin of 6 percentage points. Two other Democrats — Sens. Kamala D. Harris (Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) had leads that were within the poll’s margin of error."

That's very bad. Is this the first time someone not named Beto has led Trump in TX.
An old white northeastern man is leading Trump in TX.....interestingly another old northeastern man. His wall does not play well there.
I'm coming around on Biden....only because he deserves it after not running in 2016.

When was the last time a Democrat led a Republican in ANY TX presidential election poll? 70s?

Are there any polls on how these Democrats would do against Pence?
Still a long way to go and many investigations left.
Pence has a better chance of being a 2020 Presidential nominee than most Democrats that are running now.

This may be why Pelosi wants to put off impeachment as long as possible.
She may be thinking that it's better to run against a damaged Trump than to run against Pence. It may be that she doesn't want to damage the president so much that he has to drop out of the race before he officially becomes the 2020 nominee.
In politics, timing is important.

Like most VP's Pence has been invisible and he's a little too religious to have much of a chance. If Trump is out, someone like Kasich would be the best bet for the R's.
Pelosi's position has been that the Senate won't close the deal and that just an impeachment will help Trump. If she thought it would cause him to drop out, she would have already started impeachment proceedings. She just said she wants him in prison which would only happen after he leaves office.

This could be her thinking here. It seems she is of the opinion that if they impeach him and the Senate acquits that that weakens the argument for criminal charges after he is out of office. While I think he is deserving of impeachment and removal AND prison, if I had to choose one, it would be prison.
He does deserve prison, and I do believe he will end up there...unless he dies first or there is crime that prevents it or space aliens make it not so.
What if Trump is out after the primaries are done but before the presidential nomination convention?

Some people believe the Dems have a moral obligation to go for impeachment, but I believe the decision needs to be 100% political; Trump has to go. One of the posters opined that an impeachment will bring more attention to his misdeeds, but his base won't watch any testimony and/or care and most of the swing voters are likely to be already aware of the highlights of the Mueller report.
I don't understand why people consider Trump to be so hard to beat in 2020. His track record is terrible. We're in a Tarrif war, he got nowhere with his effing wall, he has ignored climate change, backed out the Iran deal with no clear strategy, did not replace Obamacare, had made no progress with NK even though he moranically claimed to be in love with Kim, alienated allies and has lied a few thousand times. I dont believe his strategy of nicknames and insults will help him this time.
Maybe Pelosi will wait & have it BOTH ways!
Start impeachment proceedings; with Nixon these went for quite awhile. They don’t have to end until after the election. Trump loses, no double jeopardy, no need to go on; lock him up! Trump wins, continue investigation, whatever!
Just like Nixon, GOP will realize they can’t win many of their local elections (many having already lost in the midterms); ultimately they will decide or not & face voters.
How is his tract record terrible? His track record is unblemished. He has a perfect record (1-0) in presidential elections. This morning for the first time since his election Mika and Joe had for the very first time something good to say about him - that his D-Day anniversary speech was one for the ages. A very uplifting speech. I think President Trump is growing on even his staunchest critics.
He is behind the 8 ball for sure with regard to getting re-elected in 2020, but his one saving grace is that the economy is super great. It is not inconceivable that he could win again.
