Just read a fascinating idea -
A broad question is why Americans feels so angry about the economy, when by virtually every measure we have never had it so good.
One answer is the lack of inflation. When inflation is a normal 3-5%, then you tend to get pay raises every year to match it. But when inflation is 1-3% like it is now, we don't get those regular raises...or the raises are very small.
So while it all nets out the same, and the prior raises were illusionary...we don't like when our paychecks rise only a tiny amount.
I know there are other factors, but I never saw that one before and thought it was interesting.
I wonder how Japanese dealt with deflation for decades...what the mental effect of that was.
I know it seems like a stereotype, but there really is a growing divide between rich & poor. Used to be an owner or entrepreneur could make the big bucks, but also paid a higher tax rate. An executive or manager didn’t need millions, they were secure salarymen. We’ve over-invested in military relative to health & education & minimum wage.
As an RD I am always shocked at the fees that are demanded to put on a run or walk, like exercise was stealing the streets from business! Every city & town should invest in regularly held, mass-participation walks & runs. It’s cheap, and healthy people are happier & more productive. Our government is really not doing its job at street level.

I think the economic divide isn't much different than it has been in the past...but the cultural divide is growing. We used to watch the same tv shows, drink the same beer etc...but now the walls between cultures is vast.
That's why a guy like biden or mayor pete would help - to help start to bring the nation back together culturally.

Genuine question, when Trump has his products made overseas isn’t that globalism?
Trump is no different than other politicians, he see the dissatisfaction, and panders to it. Not really different than Warren and Sanders talking about erasing student loan debt.
That comparison would work if Warren & Sanders had personally made huge profits from college tuition. Have they? Is there something I’m missing?
Trumps actions have always betrayed his promises to his base. You really should start demanding better.

Well, I don't know what "monkey-paw'd" means in that context, but there is no evidence that I did anything of the sort that you said after that.
Basically I'm saying you made your original guarantee intentionally ambiguous or worded it in such a way that would allow you to claim victory regardless of the outcome by taking advantage of various semantic elements and word play.
You would totally be the "evil genie" type
I did not do that at all though...two conditions made my claim null and vlid - 1) cheating; 2) space aliens made us vote for him. Like I said, immediately after the election it appeared I was wrong and I said so...so how had I made my claim ambiguous so that I could claim victory? If I had tried to do that, I wasn't very successful.
I NEVER make ambiguous claims in the hopes that I can twist it later so that I was right. I have no need to do that. I have 100% integrity 100% of the time that prohibits me from doing such a thing.

I said Trump would not win unless he cheated (he did) or space aliens made us vote him in. He cheated. We have no evidence of space aliens making us vote him in. These criteria did in no way guarantee my correctness. In fact, immediately after the election, I stated that I was proved wrong...BUT that turned around when we later found out that he did indeed cheat...in a big prohibitive FELONIOUS way too, so not insignificant when the race was that close (70,000 votes total from key states).
Can you link to the post where you gave some qualifications? I don’t remember any qualifications attached to that guarantee you gave. Thanks.
Can you link to a post where I guaranteed Trump would lose? (actually MAYBE, but it would be decently hard to find as I don't think I did it much outside of the one thread that was deleted).
Letsrun deleted that big 2016 election thread where I gave the conditions of my prediction. It is also the thread where I MADE the prediction. I could lie and say I didn't, but I have 100% integrity 100% of the time, so I do not lie. I have asked Letsrun to bring back the thread to no avail. You can try.
I don't remember you posting EVER, so I guess that shows we don't remember everything.

You are completely wrong. The gini coefficient has grown considerably in the last four decades. Milquetoast moderates are the wrong candidates now, just as they were the last election:

Yep. One in a million great clips from Seinfeld. I thought of that after I noticed my typo.

the house is run by democrats because of all the moderates who won last year - don't forget that.
dont' also forget that Biden is leading because he is a moderate.
as for GINI...it's a problematic measurement. It is crude and doesn't take into consideration aging of populations, how healthcare is a large part of our compensation now, how households have shrunken, how inflation can be measured differently...
I've been looking into this inequality thing for years. A lot of thoughtful economists have thrown up flags saying 'hold on, don't believe the hype.'

Sure, go ahead and ignore the facts.
You will back Hillary until you die. You will lead us to four more years of Trump...Biden will lose

you aren't thinking this through. You are accusing me of ignoring the facts...but I brought a bunch of new facts into the convo. Then you ignore those facts...,talk about Hillary, and make wild guesses about the future.
Tell you what. When you get home from school today, sit down and gather your thoughts. 8th grade is a tough year. Come up with a thoughtful response, and we can discuss tomorrow.
piss off you hilary lover. Your record speaks for itself.

Inflation also helps people who own a home outright and have NO debt as long as they are invested in the market. Inflation drives the market upward, so, even in retirement (where people often say they are on a "fixed income"), inflation moves up retirement investment AND also Social Security payments (at least for now).

The "Hillary lover" stuff is weird beyond belief. Were you a "Mitt Romney lover" after he lost to Obama?
I don't remember anyone here saying they loved Hillary Clinton. You can dislike Trump and even traditional Republican planks (don't really see much of those these days) and not be a Hillary lover.
Again...what a weird thing to say.
Creepy Porn Lawyer and Clownpole's hero in trouble again.
All the moderate lovers who backed Hillary in the last election are responsible for giving us four years of Trump. They are about to repeat that exact same mistake by backing the "electable moderate" Biden. Agip was the worst of them, saying how it didn't matter that hillary was taking big money from global banks, didn't matter that she was a warmonger, didn't matter that she helped mastermind mass incarceration, stating that people who supported Bernie were costing dems enthusiasm. You were right there with him. Lots of people on this board were calling it all along that HIllary was an awful candidate, that she failed to generate any enthusiasm, that her position were not in line with the electorate.
Keep going down that same path. Keep ignoring income inequality and saying it is all about the clture.
We're getting four more years of Trump i 2020 is Trump v. Biden.
