This thread has come close to hitting rock bottom. Maybe has jumped the shark. When the highlight of the weekend was whether Flagpole had or did not have a dinner party, and whether his 100% lying caused him to be kicked out of the dinner party, we have some problems. And the fact that he posted around 10 PM can be evidence that he DID NOT attend a dinner party. Who arrives home around 9:30 after a dinner party??? Seriously. Did he rush back to post? Sad.
We’re not sell-outs like you, we believe in our Constitution. Russians aren’t known for good government, so you wouldn’t understand.
Alright, can anyone provide some clarity on payments coming to the US Treasury? Trump says payments have been made by China to the US Treasury and others have said that doesn’t happen. Do foreign countries pay money directly to the treasury to be able to ship/sell goods in the US? Where is the confusion on this? Unlike other political topics this would seem like something that should be clear cut.

And you are calling the Jarrod Nadler-, Nancy Pelosi-, Adam Schiff-, Chuck Schumer-, Maxine Walters-, Shelia Jackson Lee-, Eric Swallwell-led House (with Schumer) "good government?" They are clowns in charge of the House. Seriously, they are partisan hacks trying to overturn the 2016 election. Hacks and clowns. Yes, we have a great government!
Xi was re-elected with 99% of the vote and then they made an amendment to eliminate term limits with 99% opting in favor of that.
He’s president for life.
If Trump keeps the tariffs in place long enough he really has no chance in 2020.
And to what you said, even if the tariffs work to shift more manufacturing back to the US there isn’t the will or capacity to succeed.
The low American unemployment works agains it. They’d have to allow immigrants in from the south for cheap labor to make more things in America.
China recently changed its rules - Xi need not be term limited out. President for life?

I’m going with “no dinner party.”

China does not pay tariffs. It is clear cut.

What leverage does Trump have over Xi to make a deal?
His tariffs will hurt both economies.
Trump has an election next year.
Xi is president for life.
Trump is not going to make a deal. He does not understand the costs and benefits from using tarrifs, economics or just about anything else. His only contribution to the negotiations with China is tweeting threats about slapping 25% tarrifs on this or that.
Other people will put together a deal, Trump will approve it without understanding it and then call it the GOAT.

Of course it's clear cut. US Import companies pay the tariff. How can I be sure? I just wrote a check to pay the tariff to our customs broker for our next inbound container. Trump has obviously been effective in muddying the waters here. Many of his partisans will believe him and think the Chinese government is cutting checks to the US. Other fans of his will know he's wrong but will smirk at the fact that he's putting one over on people. Many neutral observers who assumed (correctly) that US companies pay the tariff (and pass it along to consumers or lose profits) will now puzzle over the issue, thinking that the President of the United States couldn't possibly lie so brazenly.

I don't see how Tiny has any leverage in the trade war.
Tiny has to stand for re-election soon. Xi does not. Xi can just wait him out.
China's pseudo-central bank is on currently on attempt number #5 to stabilize their economy and output though a massive stimulus program. Economically speaking, they're in a bigger question mark then us because nobody knows what actually goes on over their and it's pretty widely accepted that all their self-reported economic numbers are basically made up. Xi doesn't have to be re-elected but he has to keep the right people rich and the masses employed and a recession could make people unhappy.
Also, China's stock market is like 75% retail traders and it's speculated to be about as liquid as a pile of bricks. You could see a lot of wealth start to disappear quickly and big companies close up shop overnight

And China will still probably continue to rip off our IP and skirt international laws

How do you know that?
Because that is pure Trump.

Yes, those ridiculous US IPs such as using a finger to press a key, using fingers to swipe, rubber to make tires. Never mind that the US pays zero money for Chinese intellectual property such as paper, gunpowder, moveable type, compasses, alcohol, clocks, umbrellas, toothbrush, and paper money.
Fat hurts, as a born again Christian, these claims about Flagpole claiming to never lie, is absolutely false. Everybody has told lies in their life except for one- the Son of God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He lived a sinless life and we have all fallen short. Flagpole needs to stop with these no lying claims.
And, you are dead wrong. In the future, their will be an AntiChrist and he will subdue all the nations, create a one world government and seek to rule the world during the 7 year Tribulation as prophesied in the Book of Revelation.
Thanks. It is curious why in this case Trump wouldn’t just say how tariffs will help the US economy. Confusing with Kudlow giving a different take.
It’s less confusing if you assume trump lies/completely misunderstands every issue.
Since all the Russians that Mueller indicted are victims of a hoax, I’m sure you can persuade them to visit!

So maybe it comes down to whose leader is crazy enough and cares less about its own people.
That's what Kim in North Korea faced with our transition from Obama to Trump.
Trump has no idea what he is doing economically which makes him a bit scary to both Americans and foreign competitors.
