I especially like that he was a "Technial Writer" - LOL.
Are you threatened by my renaissance man abilities?
Let's get it all down here so there is no confusion in the future.
I have made money in the following ways - listed in no particular order:
Sold Worms As a kid lived in an area where there were lots of fisherman - they always got a baker's dozen.
Paper boy - Delivered The Columbus Dispatch. Little did I know that one day I would be a staff sports reporter for them.
McDonald's - Worked there while in high school.
Set Builder - While in college, I built sets with Makita power tools for the theater department.
News Reporter
Sports Reporter - Won a sports writing award from the Associated Press in 1990. "Best amateur sports story". The story was about amateur sports - I was a paid professional journalist.
Food Critic/Editor (more of an advertising thing really - I wasn't allowed to say bad things - for a restaurant and entertainment magazine I wrote for). Got to eat very well during that time though. Fortunately that was also the time I was doing ultra distance and running two ultra marathons and training for a third (Western States 100 - but I got injured and couldn't run it), so I didn't get fat - well, not then.
Musician - I have played in three bands in my life - all gigging - including my current band MIX (I HATE the name) - we have a gig in August for MBA graduates and their families. I've also played some solo gigs and some gigs with just one other musician. My current band doesn't do the bar thing. I am most proficient as a keyboard player, but I also play guitar and sing. I am a good enough keyboard player to make a living doing it if I wanted to - just don't want to - not now anyway.
Stand Up Comic - Did the local standup comic scene in California (and a few other states).
Distance Runner - I've never added up all the prize money I made in the early 90s, but one month I was able to pay for rent with just the money I made that month. Total is good for a couple thousand dollars+ probably.
Teacher - Taught summer school one summer to middle school students. Also taught a college English course one semester as a visiting professor (that's what they called it - pretty much their professor was on sabbatical, and I was a sub).
Computer Instructor - Taught computer classes and HTML to adults.
Technial Writer - Wrote system administration manuals and online help for a couple of very complex software systems.
Manager - Manager of a technical writing department for a large international company.
There - oh yeah, I had a couple of temp jobs in there too, but I think that's enough detail.
Lots of people do grand things. I'm just one of them.
