I am curious how Barr could ever go to jail while serving as DOJ. I am not arguing that he should go to jail or should not but just curious how he would ever face a successful criminal prosecution. The House is powerless to do anything about it. He can pretty much stop anything, e.g, contempt citation, criminal prosecution by the Southern District of NY, etc. Even the hosts on MSNBC today sounded pretty rattled that the House was impotent in doing anything against Trump or Barr if they (Trump and Barr) played hardball. One host even went so far to say that Trump/Barr are saying, "check-mate" while the House is cluelessly saying, "check."
I think some folks may be misinterpreting your post. You're simply posting a practical issue, as I see it.
I don't think there *is* a way Barr could go to jail--unless voluntarily!--while serving as AG...at least on federal charges. (I suppose an individual state could convict and jail him on non-federal charges.)
The House would be able to impeach, but it's unlikely the Senate would convict and remove him from the post of AG. So yeah, if he "played hardball" he would be untouchable, so long as he remained in his position.
At least that's how it looks to me. I'm open to correction.
