I gotcha. But we have been running deficits more or less since the New Deal and skyrocketing after the Reagan tax cuts and rising military spending. That’s a long time ago. Our debt ratio is way higher than Venezuela and we’ve been just fine.
You can’t really compare the fall of other counties to ours. Our economy is vastly different, the fed, our credit rating, etc.
I’m not sure what the way forward is but my guess would be to ensure the debt ratio doesn’t get out of hand, ensure we can pay the debt interest each year, ensure foreign governments keep buying our treasury bonds. The thing about entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security....eventually those payouts will decrease anyway as baby boomers die off.
Another interesting statistic.....immigration and children born to immigrants make up the largest and second largest contributor to our population growth. Aaaaand Hispanics have a higher life expectancy....
...Hey maybe that’s the goal with the wall? Fewer people living to old age, reduce strain on entitlement programs?
