Sure. That is what they should be doing. Unfortunately our government avoids dealing with real problems and continues this charade. If we were a reasonable people we would address the endless wars, military spending, balance the budget, cut wastefull agency spending, and slash the unnatural growth of government entitlements. But we won’t, until we cascade to the end point of reason.
I agree that is what they should be doing. (Also agree with many of the other things you mentioned.). However, I feel Trump is too stubborn to compromise and Pelosi has no incentive to compromise. I believe the pressure is going to mount mostly on Trump and he will then agree to reopen the government and postpone the debate.

I could see that, but at the same time the government employees generally vote Democratic. So there is more pressure on Pelosi as the shutdown drags on.

The Democrats seem to be prepared to offer the entire $5.7 billion for border security that Trump has asked for.
The catch is that none of it can be used for new construction of any wall.
They can repair and fortify existing fencing and barriers. It can be used for more immigration judges. It can be used for surveillance and new technology.
And Trump would have to sign off on a continuing resolution and reopen the government immediately and then hammer out the details after that. It would take a while to write the appropriation details and you can’t keep these workers waiting while you do that.
You couldn’t say the Democrats don’t care about border security.
Only Trump’s obstinacy could prevent that from working.
Please, please, please GOP run a reasonable moderate candidate against Trump and primary his a$$. Anyone would be better than the turd burgering imbecile running your party.

And Democrats don’t run Hillary, Harris, Booker, or Biden. I am OK with Pocohantas.

Who the hell are these 39 and 36%?
I didn’t realize that so many people had room temperature IQs.
Are there any Dems on this thread who actually APPROVE of Pekosi’s job performance?

He's right Flagpole. Last Spring you said that...in so many words. He'll be done soon, they'll impeach him, he won't have a chance to resign. You are full of crap.
I have never said that. Burden of proof on you, brother. Go find it. You won't be able to. I have ONLY said that he will not make it to the end of his term and that he will be impeached and convicted OR he will resign. I have said that L L's prediction that he may be gone before summer was a good one but that I wasn't prepared to make that prediction. Again, ,I have ONLY said that he won't make it to the end of his term. You will not...you can not prove otherwise.

I'm not a Democrat (have never pulled the Dem lever for any office, in any election), but *I* approve of her performance. As has been widely observed, she's the most effective speaker in the last half-century; and though I don't agree with all of her political positions by any means, I certainly approve of her performance vis-à-vis Trump.
The GOP Senators can end the shutdown without Trump.
Send the CR up. Let him veto it and override the veto.
Pelosi nor Schumer nor any Democrat is in anyway responsible for this shutdown.
It’s a big fat R problem.

Flagpole, Rigged, agip, and your buddies, you guys just keep “cheering” for your sides while the country goes to hell. You also are part of the problem. Try being part of the solution for once.

Such BS. I am not cheering for my "side". I don't know how much more clear I can make this, but I am against Donald Trump in the White House, not a Republican in the White House. I have long said I really may have voted for John Kasich if he had won the Republican nomination. I don't agree with him on everything, but he's a reasonable person and doesn't have the baggage that Hillary does.
My "side" is ONLY the side of truth and justice. The country might be going to hell, but it is solely because of the Orange One in the White House and those who support him. He's a serial liar and a criminal, and he should not be the President. That is just on the side of America. Trump is anti-American.
Mueller is coming.
The clown is done.

i think it’s kinda funny. You can tell they watch a segment on msnbc and then immediately post what they say over as their own opinions. It’s ridiculous. Neigher has an original thought.
Nope. I almost never watch MSNBC, and I avoid Rachel Maddow like the plague. I read the NY Times and the Washington Post and watch CNN and Fox News...Fox News because I need to know what they think...that's how I know Shep Smith and Chris Wallace are fair. I then also read the Wall Street Journal and get news from a few other sources more irregularly.
Also, I just look for facts. I form my own opinions based on those facts. CNN often has a panel of people with differing views. Don Lemon is very opinion based. Chris Cuomo is more balanced. I know what is what at all times.

You see oppression where there is none because you project your own desire for authoritarianism onto others.

Idealism is great and all, but when we have a lying criminal President who is beholden to the Russian President, all that takes a back seat.
Trump is to blame for the shutdown of course, but McConnell could begin the process of ending it by calling a vote.
We won't begin to get back to normal until Trump is out of office.

If that’s the case I would ask for more money then 5.7 billion but also assure Democrats that it won’t be used for the wall; possibly in the 10-15 billion range. That money can be used so CBP and ICE can get up to date with technology that criminals crossing the border are using today. Whenever I see police on all levels it seems that there equipment is out of date.
Also update the most vulnerable areas on the border and come up with counter measures to best secure that part of the border.
I would also come up with a bill to not allow the states to interfere with ICE. Allow local police departments to assist ICE with the capture of illegal dangerous criminals. That is garbage and these local leaders need to be charged with a crime.
This shutdown is everyone’s fault. Democrats need to figure out what direction they want to take their party. They now have reps who are willing to give President Trump the money while some want open borders. The press can spin this however they want but Republicans are at least for the most part on the same page with the direction of their party. They also support Trump to the range of 90%.

Confirming that they are a solid collection of idiots.
1) The Washington Examiner says 84% of Republicans support Trump.
2) CNN has a poll that says only 80% of Republicans support Trump.
3) RCP Approval rating for all is 40.9%
4) A quick look didn't bring up one poll that had him at 90% approval rating among Republicans.
5) Maybe you have a poll to share?
Honestly, it doesn't matter anyway...many who used to be Republicans no longer identify that way because of Trump. He is not a popular president no matter how you try to slice it.
Popularity isn't everything anyway. He's a criminal.
Mueller is coming.
