1) The math for the Senate didn't really give the Democrats much of a chance there which is why I said Republicans would hold on to the Senate and likely add seats...and no that was not going out on a limb (weird that I have to say that here).
2) Things had been looking good for Democrats in the House for a while now, but this is not really a surprise as this kind of thing is common in a midterm election. The math favored the Democrats in the House. At least one person I responded to here said that Democrats would just barely take the House, and as of now the number of seats is 230 for Democrats, so that's a significant pickup...something I said would happen, so he was wrong.
3) I was never on board with the "Blue Wave" thing, and I don't think any reasonable person is calling this a blue wave.
4) Democrats can't declare this was a referendum on the Orange One, but they can be happy about taking the House. Republicans will try to downplay that, but it is important as far as putting a check on this criminal President for the next two years at least.
5) In the next Senate election, the map is more favorable to Democrats than it is this time, but since it won't be a midterm election, that goes against Democrats.
6) Neither party should be elated with the results. Democrats are better off than they were before the election, so there is hope for them, and Trump is scared about what the House will do now, so that is good and appropriate.
7) With the election of a lot of women, including two Muslim women and several other minorities for Democrats, it is clear that Republicans will need to find a way to court more voters other than white men.
8) The rest of the country could take a lesson from the Ohio Governor race, won by Republican Mike DeWine. Both he and Democrat Rich Cordray said seemingly sincere nice things about the other after the election was called for DeWine. Each called the other a "good public servant". On a running note, Mike DeWine has a 5k cross country course on his property that hosts a very popular high school dual meet each fall that has several teams come, and they run races with just two against each other at a time. Gives the kids a chance to actually run a dual meet...something that doesn't happen much anymore.
Trump and his family remain a criminal enterprise, and a continued investigation into his criminal behavior is necessary and should be cheered by all Americans. You never know when a criminal in the White House the level of Trump one day is a Democrat. We just can't stand for that kind of behavior.
