"There was zero evidence of any substantive collusion between the then Trump campaign and the Russian government."
Okay. Liar.
The investigation is not over. All of the evidence has not been collected. Several other senators have said they have reason to believe that there is revealing evidence that they have not yet accessed. They have not seen all of the evidence because Republicans are actively obstructing this inquiry. The man heading the probe, Senator Burr, was a Trump campaign adviser. As of just two weeks ago, the committee had not interviewed any key witnesses, it hadn't requested evidence that might be revealing, like Trump campaign emails and phone records, and it didn't have a single staffer working on the investigation full-time. Guess how many staffers the Benghazi committee had. Go on. Guess.
Can we honestly call these people our countrymen? I don't think I can anymore.
Rather than stepping up to the plate and saying "enough!", virtually every prominent Republican politician has decided to jump in a getaway car being driven by a demented, lying orange with obvious authoritarian impulses. No accountability, no respect for bipartisanship, integrity, or the institutions and traditions that are the foundation of our democracy. Time will tell if the few who have actually expressed "concerns" (Sasse, McCain, and Flake) will actually do anything about it. If history is any guide, they will sit on their hands when push comes to shove.
