I absolutely think that our military is an artificial jobs program funded by the American taxpayers.
Artificial, in that there isn't a real demand for it and the capacity of the military is way beyond its use.
But I don't have a real problem with that. It's still people working in exchange for money and them spending that money back into the economy. While at the same, providing actual protection, and even more so, perceived protection that extends American influence across the globe. And these people have entire careers in the military and raise their families with this funding.
We don't need a bigger military budget, though.
We could also use more scientists, educators and environmental engineers that would be a good jobs program and provide value at the same time.
And then there are things like, should we feed a family of four for a year or give Ben Carson new furniture?
Should we fund a new homeless shelter or have luxury accommodations for Scott Pruit's travel?
Should we help farmers more or fly Trump back and forth to Florida every week?
