DDT wasn't killing birds, but we banned it because of junk science and ended up killing 35 million people, most of them children in developing countries who died from malaria.
The banning of DDT is an excellent example of how do gooders can end up be do badders by misleading people and creating bad policy where the unintended consequences are worse than the original problem. The DDT banning debacle shows us why we shouldn't base policy on emotional junk science, which is what we have now surrounding the gun issue.
