Bekele will FAIL in his world record attempt. Wake me up when the race is over and I will tell you why!
Test his BLOOD and URINE right before and immediately after the race if you want us to consider his WR effort to be legitimate! Post the results and let the public know everything - If he's clean, then fine, he's the "ULTIMATE RUNNING GOD OF ALL TIME!!!!" But..... if they don't do this and he runs 1:59, I don't care how easy he makes it look, I will NOT believe it to be legitimate, period. In this day and age we should expect no less than full results disclosure of all tests! What has he got hide? If they're not willing to do this, then he and his couching team are nothing but a bunch of greedy scam artists and all belong in jail!
In fact, make that a stipulation for the prize money beforehand - No tests first and right after - no record and no money!! F- Off!

He will own the record at some point. If he doesn't get it on Friday, he'll get it in Berlin
women's WR to fall?

Good article, by the way. The weather really will make KB pay if he goes out in 61 flat. Surely Renato Canova knows this.
Renato has probably been working with lots of people in the know to make sure that the proper "ergogenic cocktail" has been part of KB's preparation for the record attempt. Imagine if drug testing were implemented equally and honestly across the board. Renato would be out of a job.
Agree strongly with this. I am not interested in the race. I am interested as to how the IAAF and race organisers are ensuring that only clean athletes will be participating in this race and the public should be made aware of the measrues taken. If it still looks like the IAAF and race organsers are not doing much or even facilitating doping then sites such as this one should not be covering the race it they feel strongly against PED use in distance running.
Bekele will get it done if the weather is good. I have high confidence on him.

Canova is not an idiot. The race starts at 6:30, a half hour before sunrise. Expected temp is 64. No way that will be a problem.
How about the wind? 64 is high for a world record.
You two are simply projecting your lack of knowledge.
Of course there is testing at one of the biggest elite marathons in the world.
Any record set needs to be ratified with testing and course measuring.
You lot are just stupid, getting angry over things you have invented in your head.
Hermens is a powerful figure
Who knows what goes on behind the scenes or what bribes have possibly been paid to ensure a negative test

You don't have a clue.
Since when is mid to high 60s ideal marathon temperature? It's a great temperature to run a 5k or a 10k in, but it will absolutely slow down a marathon world record attempt.
Agree. High 60s is not good for fast marathon running.

Not to mention that it will ONLY get warmer as the sun comes up. It starts at 64 and goes up to what?
Isn't Negessee the pace maker banned for doping?

Doping pacemaker? Caught in 2016?

to run 2 hours, it is going to take a half dozen guys like the bekele of 10 years ago to be in the same race, in perfect conditions, and have 4 of them pace up to 30km.
we are talking about six guys that can do 10k in 2600 to 2620.
now, you have only one older bekele and a half dozen guys that can run 203 flat.
which means in perfect conditions and perfect pacing, a 202 low is possible.
the alternative is to find a way to get ingest fuel more efficiently during the race, that being the case, anyone who can run 57 flat for the half would be a candidate for 2 hours.
So nobody.
Too warm for record

Based on what? I hope you aren't using statistics to support your argument.
Perhaps I'm getting myself a little too worked-up about this WR attempt, but I REALLY want Bekele to get it. Maybe it's just because I love him so much; maybe it's because I'm so annoyed with Farah's (lack of) attempts to go after ANY WRs (or even fast times...I get not trying to get 26:17, but why not try to at least get 26:30?); or maybe it's because it's the unprecedented-ness of the feat (according to this site's front page, no one in history has had the 5,000; 10,000; and marathon WRs at the same time), but I will definitely be disappointed if KB CAN'T break the WR, in a way I haven't been for any marathon WR attempts in the past.
I mean, who really cares if, say, Kipsang, Kimetto, or even Kipchoge (although it'd be better for him, as it'd put the icing on his proverbial marathon cake after a phenomenal run the last few years, and would also be his first WR) lowers the record from 2:02:57 to 2:02:45. But Bekele doing it would be so much better, not only for the almost inconceivable three outdoor WRs at once to his name that it would entail, but also because he set the first of those world records well over ten years ago. How crazy would that be?!
I'm sad to read the posters in this thread saying the weather isn't going to be great. Did I read that Bekele is going to be running London in April as well? Conceivably he would get the WR there, but honestly, I think Kipchoge is an even better marathoner than Bekele is right now, so if it came down to it between the two, I do think Kipchoge could beat KB at this point. Although it would be close for sure, and I could be proven wrong. But especially with the many marathons KB has run recently, and so close together.
Another reason it's going to be unbearable to see KB get a 2:03 or 2:04 is because I think we can all sense his time is running out. This will also certainly put to rest any doubts that he is the GOAT, above even the great Haile, even though I think he's already gotten that title. And this would put to rest the doubters who say that Zatopek is superior because of his 5, 10, & marathon golds in '52. Getting all three WRs at once in 2017 is surely a much harder feat than that, I think even taking training and different eras into account.
As of right now--9 pm ET in the US--the predicted temp. in Dubai on Friday morning is 65 degrees F. at 6 a.m., and 71 degrees F. at 10 a.m. Not ideal, but not a nightmare inferno either. No it's not the ideal 46 degrees......but it shouldn't be a deal-breaker either for the WR.
