You must be slow because anytime I've ran faster than 7 minute pace on a track in the snow I just start skidding. Why are you running 40 minutes on the track anyway? Seems silly to me

I'm pretty slow. 5K pr 15:36. Did my run at about 8 min pace that day.
I was running on the track because I had nowhere else to run that had no car traffic, and the footing was really good. Also recovering from groin strain so didn't want uneven surfaces. The run was very enjoyable, didn't get any new injuries, so not so silly in my opinion, but to each his own.
BTW, its "anytime I've RUN faster than"....You come off as an uneducated moRAN using ran in that context.
You're welcome!
My teammate used to do this everytime it snowed... I thought every team had one.

Because you're too stupid to see I'm trolling.
Agreed Bad Wig is one of the best trolls here...
I'll give the kid some credit if he did this to get a core-workout before starting his run.
The only reason this is on the news it because he is from NC. In the north it happens every time we want to do a track workout. Heck I even bring my snowblower (with protective skids on it) to practice sometime. My teammates and I would be having shirtless snowball fights in that balmy weather.
I did something mildly similar, I raked up 350m of acorns and chestnut during the autumn/fall in a public park because running on them was hurting my knees. People thought I was a local government worker. My knees improved immediately!

Coming from a runner up North who has to do this more than often enough, it's common among many competitive highschools. The only difference is the people in MA don't brag about it with a freaking drone video. Nice try, southerners.
And we won the Civil War. Suck it.
the old man hate is string on this thread lol.
As a high school coach, I'm happy when things like this pop up in the news, even if they are not that extraordinary. I'm a coach in Northern California and we are not allowed to hold organized practice between our state meet and February 6th (the official start date for outdoor track...we don't have or need indoor track). My top runners run no matter what and if it did snow here, they would either run through the snow, or shovel the track, but I also have many runners who don't do much running in the off season, despite being strongly encouraged to do so. As much as I can tell them that being good requires regular work, their peer group (mostly non-runners) think that the amount of work that they already do is crazy. Anything extra is just absurd. Meanwhile, it is normal to play 5 soccer games in a weekend. If there is media out there normalizing runners who do a little bit extra to make sure they get their run in, I'm all for it. I sent this article to my team a couple days before seeing the thread on letsrun because I want them to see instances of good runners doing things above and beyond to get their training. Is this unprecedented or otherworldly? No, but in an area where this probably doesn't happen very often and where this might not be consistent with his team's culture, why shouldn't this kid be proud of his effort on that day? That he would do this is probably a part of why he is good as it is a part of why lots of other runners are as good as they are. The Washington Post is not a running publication though, so for most people who would read the article, it probably seems like a crazy level of commitment.
he missed a spot
