What is better for his family, him sending money home which goes a long way (he's probably making more on US roads than we would have otherwise), or getting killed and leaving his child and orphan and wife a widow in Ethiopia? Learn something about the world.

an American? are you sure?
Korir is American and in the military. He could be deployed this year. As far as I'm concerned, he is more American than you.
Why are you so against these two runners?
Lelisa has claimed that he and his family face torture and death in Ethiopia. So it is very strange that only he is a "refugee" and he let his wife and children to die (if we have to believe his fake story). What kind of man abandons his family?
Korir is American to make more money. No, he won't be deployed, these guys don't care about the US or the Army, they only got citizenship to gain more money and they use the Army to become a citizen much faster.
From Twitter, ABC13Houston has said that their video of the elites is only that-video. No sound. Others have complained about it, too. Who "covers" an elite race with video only?? Guess I should be glad I can at least see the video, vs. sound but no video, but seriously...!

. if someone wants to join the army to get citizenship then by all means.
I believe the deal is that if you don't qualify for the Olympics you become a regular enlisted man.

Paul Chelimo is enlisted.

Bigger things, like abandoning his own family? What a good father!

Yeah I was in the army and deployed to Iraq in 04 and I have no problem at all w the army athletes. It is great PR for the army .. and it's the utilization of an asset. If you have a world class runner why would you not want him to run and win and be great?!
Why can't he run for the Kenyan army?
You are clearly a troll but I'll take the bait and call you a bigot and s moran anyway.
Wow, Hasay ran a faster debut than Molly Huddle(1:09:01), totally unexpected!
TrackBot! VDOT 01:08:40 Half marathon
You obviously can't be bothered to read up on Lelisa's story. His family supports what he is doing. They are all fighting for survival under an iniquitous regime. Grow up and educate yourself Houston runner about the desperate realities of families from war torn regions.

Hasay's time today in pretty bad conditions (97% humidity) converts to about a 14:50 5k while her PR is 15:28, I think.

You obviously know nothing about the world, Ethiopia, or this family's situation.
First of all, few regimes target women and children. It is the vocal dissenter who brings the police raids, the kids being kicked out of school, the family farm being repossessed. It has been almost six months and his family support him, get it? Probably because they are safer WITHOUT HIM THERE and furthermore he is making more money on the US roads than he would training away in Ethiopia (probably not allowed to leave the country again if he comes back, even if he isn't imprisoned). Yes, I've actually been there, while you clearly haven't left west Texas.
As for Korir, yes, he is more of an American than you. He could be deployed, and actually did something to become a citizen. You were just born in the U.S. and proceeded to waste space here.

Unbelievable.
They still have the cameramen on the race cars and motorcycles, the on-screen notes, but can't have commentary for the added hour of the actual marathon.
Simply pathetic.
Agreed! I've never seen this done... *sigh*
A few is a little small think of Galen Rupp and people that have changed distances

I have no sound as well but am able to watch with sound on TV. One of the announcers is one of the few runners to break 4:00 for mile and 2:15 for marathon.

It's getting worse! They actually *do* have commentators going, but the sound only kicks in when the view switches to the finish cam! They are talking the rest of the time but the sound is off. Brojos, if you're in the press area, tell someone. The camera work and commentary (when it's on) are actually good.
I noticed that, too. They get cut-off mid-sentence, then come back in mid-sentence.
Wow. "Houston, we have a problem..."
:-(
I do hope someone lets them know about this (lack of) coverage.
it's hard to argue with your points, thanks for writing them out.also, regarding the military; most people join because (1) they don't know what else to do with their lives and don't have a plan for college, career etc or (2) they want the military to train (and pay) for learning a professional skill. it's not like everyone wants to go fight and risk their lives and be a special ops hero, they essentially want a scholarship with lifetime benefits. if the USA is going to spend so much money on the military/defense, who is anyone to say how people take advantage of it?bottom line: i love running and if the military gives people, from any country, the opportunity to be better runners i can enjoy watching compete, i can't find fault in that.p.s. Korir is working harder to be an american than any of born here like the poster stated.

That is the only way I like to watch sports. Most of the time inane commentary only takes away from my viewing enjoyment.
