I just go a text from a buddy/source. This is the same guy who told when Grant Fisher was a senior in HS that he wasn't even the best guy in his state. At the time, I laughed and said, "Who's better?" He wrote back, "Donavan Brazier."
My source is rock solid. He knows the sport.
He says this year's breakout frosh will be Dominic Perretta of Penn State.

Based on what? Perretta's PRs are a bit lackluster for an incoming stud freshman. They are certainly not slow but there are a whole slew of preps who ran faster than 4:11 and 1:50 last year. -
I ran in the 800m finals in PA with him one year, he's an absolute stud for sure, but I wouldn't say he's the next Grant Fisher or anything. He's a shoe-in for the mid-D powerhouse that is Penn St., but I'd rather be on the lookout for Slagowski and Tamagno, as they've both already had breakout seasons. Peretta will be good, but I don't see him having a "breakout" season. He was always talented, but his PR's came in smaller margins every year and never broke through those barriers to become elite, which leads me to believe he might not have as much potential talent left to develop. Or I could be massively wrong and with the right training at Penn St. aka 800m University, he'll be a star just like Kidder and Harris.

Could make a nice dmr with Slag.

Annie Bothma

Irrelevant. And you just made me into a fan in hopes I can counter the kind of energy you are bringing to a discussion of 800m running.

Who knows what kind of training Perretta had in high school or what Penn State practices have shown so far?
But if you were going on potential from xc in college so far and track in hs, you'd have to think that Thomas Ratcliffe, who ran 4:01 in hs and had one incredible xc race and some other good ones, would be the pick. Sean Torpy broke 1:48. Slagowski, obviously, looks to be great on the college level. Austin Tamagno ran 3:44/4:01.04. And unfortunately, Drew Hunter's a pro but will run fast times, starting soon. What about Alex Lomong? He ran 1:48.67. Was he a senior?
At XC nationals, the top frosh were Joe Klecker, Jacob Choge, and Thomas Pollard? Were any of them true freshmen (and just 18 or 19)? -
Young Lomong will be the next breakout frosh.

Peretta or Abert, Slag, and Harris will be a DISGUSTING DMR. That Penn St. record could potentially fall in the next year or 2. -

And place about 5th in NCAA indoors -
Devin Dixon at Texas A&M. 46.91 and 1:49.52 in high school. I've seen him run and he's a monster. I would expect at least 1:47 indoors.
I agree on Peretta. He's a big talent and Gondak gets his Mid D guys good right away. I bet he runs in the 2:21 range in the 1k today. Maybe faster. -
What about on the women's side?

I raced this kid in High School. He is a severely undertrained runner. He ran many of his best times solo including a 1:50 flat. He was a decent cross country runner despite never training for it. I could see him having a breakout, but no promises. The kid was so good in the context of the small school division of my state that he would angrily shake his head when he would solo a state championship, but not manage a great time that day due to a lack of competition. -

Based on what? Based on my source. He's not just looking up PRs and randomly guessing. He's got his reasons. -
Rojoe, just cuz you live in charm city doesn't mean you have to have the mindset of a baltimoran. We're gonna need a little bit more than based on my source. Your source could be some idiot on the boards or your dim wit brother for all we know

How's it feel to want! -
Let's just hope he's better than the recent 800 stars coming out of PA.
Here some interesting info for you via another source I have with ties to PA. NoOt the initial source.
He wrote that "The past 8 state champs coming out of PA have not done well (in college)."
Magaha (148 hs/Upenn), Mallon (149 hs/Stanford), Cho (150hs/Cornell), Endress (151 hs/PSU).
None of those guys ever broke their HS 800 pr in college. -
Perretta 2:23. Huge time for Isaiah Harris. 45s flat leg speed

And that's easy to forget when you watch Ned Willig, Christian Sanders, John Lewis, and Alek Sauer. Willig was the only individual state champ of this bunch but these guys are making up for it (especially Sauer and Lewis who are young).
